taslin's Journal: Last week ...

Last week I took a well earned break to show my sister-in-law and her boyfriend the best parts of Scotland while they were here for the week. We took in Edinburgh castle, Loch Lomond and Glencoe. The usual visits to the pub also showed these Canadians what real drinking is!

During my week I also got the chance to install Red Hat 9.0 on my system and does it look good. Being the Linux newbie I can only see by the window decorations! I'll get to the technical stuff next week when I go to setup Eclipse on the machine and then I'll see how much I like it.

The Linux thing is basically a learning curve to start building up some Linux knowledge so that I can move from a Windows development environment to a Linux one. Having been a vb developer for the last three years I have grown tired of the whole language, the windows thing and seeing Microsoft all over my desktop. The switch to Linux is very refreshing. To replace my vb skills I am moving to Java. It's a big step I feel and I am making slow progress but progress nonetheless!
