Journal Journal: Rambling on the name Zwergin
I should comment on my use of the name Zwergin. Back in college in 1988 I created a favorite character in the Advanced Dungeons and Dragon's role playing game that TSR had, which I named Flink Kleinformat Zwergin... an Illusionist/Thief multi Class. At the time I had a fascination for the German language, but being very ineffective in even the use of my native southern English vocabulary, learning any other language was a most difficult task. I did a simple 10 minute dictionary research for Small Nimble Gnome and came up with the name. I gamed with that character off and on for several years, and adapted the use of the name "Zwergin" as a very unique user name (at the time.) It was certainly better than TDM for The Dragon Master, The Data Master, The Dungeon Master, The Dream Master and such things people had named me under the initials TDM. Zwergin just stuck in people's head, even if they could not spell or pronounce.
I have sense gained more maturity and knowledge, the internet and ease of communication has grown vast, and thus the world grew smaller. I believe there are actual family names "Zwergin"... it seems to be the Feminine tense... so I have often been mistaken for a Female of German descent. As complimentary as that may be... I have learned some from translating German messages to attempt returning an apology for misleading.
Well, that is mostly it. Zwergin has stuck very well and nearly all my BBS then Bitnet and now Internet, and E-mail communications at this point everywhere for the last 17 years have been as Zwergin because that is what I am. Just a small nimble little gnome of a person sneaking around quietly in the dark shadows, with delusions of being magical... or so I leave you to believe.
Thank you,
Zwergin -TDM
