It's amazing how much we think about how cool it would be to have new hardware and how little about the work involved in getting it running in the way we like it.
Having run Win2000 on the same laptop for three years now I just moved over to a new XP based model, and to my horror I've discovered that to get back to the state of the old one I have some 50 programs to install.
Not to mention that bookmarks, old mails, saved passwords etc. needs to go over to the new one as well.
But on the bright side this is also one of those moments that I like to call "decision moments" where you have an opportunity to change things, like rearrange the way you have your files arranged on disk, clear out the clutter of your inbox and so on.
I'm trying to impose a new rule on myself that my inbox should never contain any mail, it should be handled and filed right away when it arrives. This is actually a lot harder than it sounds, because there's always the odd piece of mail that doesn't fit any of your present folders, but it hardly seems worth it to make a new one just for that. And they do seem to breed and multiply quickly
