Journal Journal: First public journal, blog: of beagles & mosquito's, LInux.
This journal etry is the first public one I've ever made.
Couldn't sleep (1:45am) coughing too much. Nothing serious, just a nuisance.
Amused that I got a comment on the beagle2 thread modded up to 5. I had objected to someone slagging the British off over making a wooden fighter (I pointed out that the Mosquito was very successful). I also added comments about low budget, and a possible reason for failure of the Beagle2.
I just found these options for journal, friend, etc and am exploring. Also found I had a fan! Not sure why, I don't post on Slashdot that often.
I am exploring J2EE on my Linux box. Found a wierd interaction between JBoss3.2.3 an Nautilus: after a few days I was getting massive processor utilisation everytime JBoss scanned the deplyment directory, and JBoss was taking longer and longer to restart (from 30 to 75 seconds)!
I would love to upgrade to GNOME 2.4 or later, but am wondering if I should wait for a 2.6.x kernel distribution, However, whicg one, now Red Hat has sort of "gone". I'm neither enterprise nor a Linux hacker - I just prefer using Linux to the alternatives for Java development and web browsing - so Fedora is not so atractive.
My first work experiences were in FORTRAN, and later COBOL. Now I prefer Java, although I had gained a fluency in C (enough to get paid teachingC part time).
Beware saying you will never program in a language, I said that about COBOL, and ended up being a COBOL developer for more years than I'd like to admit! Mind you, I did learn C, to try and retain some self respect and a modicum of sanity. Learning C turned out to be brilliant when I went back to University - funnily enough I was told I was one of the few students who always used a make file.
Enough rambling for now...
