Journal Journal: A History of the US Income Tax?

I have always been curious especially during the US Presidential Election season. Does there exist a definitive, objective history of the US Personal Income Tax? Including accurate sample tax returns?

Been doing the computer "thing" since 1979 when I punched my first "deck" of FORTRAN IV, Did the PDP-11 (Unix), VAX 11/780 & 750 (Unix & VMS), DEC-10, DEC 2060, Harris H800, MicroVax II (VMS & Ultrix), VAX 8XXX (VMS), VAX 4XXX (VMS), RS6000 Model 530 through "Da Biggest Dhey Got". Done ARPAnet/CSNet, UUnet, BITnet, NSFnet, "Da Internet". Done ThickWire, ThinWire, TP, & even, sadly, Token ring. Yes, I have even "Tapped the "Backbone" using that little hand drill. Consider myself fortunate to have personally witnessed the Minicomputer, PC, "Minix-->Linix", Ethernet and Internet Revolutions-Evolutions...and remember a time before Microsoft ... fondly. In summary, It's been fun. I hope to do more and have been lurking far too long. Just may rush out, post/comment, take the "flames" in good spirit, and learn more about as much as I can.(sic) ... Help wherever I can.
