I don't agree. Motion blur and its core concept have many possibilities, that would apply to FPS's, and every genre for that matter. The principle of having hardware that optimizes FSAA, can lead to a lot of really kool tricks. One such trick is demonstrated in the Elsa 3d glasses, which renders the scene in numerous passes to create the illusion of a 3d monitor(like the red/blue glasses in comics/movies). That is easily the most amazing thing I have ever seen, and is easily worth the extra cycles. That would be one direct application to FPS's for motion blur.

Another thing you said is when you take a screenshot, it looks totally amazing, but actual gameplay is unnoticable. Did you consider that not all FPS's are totally action packed such as Q3? I can think of a number of FPS's played where the majority of gameplay spent is wandering around (most are quake licensees).

I agree with Chris's post, in that practically every game would so greatly benefit from the use of polygon smoothing. The visual quality and number potential coding tricks associated with it would be astounding.
