Journal Journal: Long Day

Whew, been a busy day. I spent my first five hours, as usual, in class. Did pretty well on my Linear Algebra test (one of four A's), nothing of note beyond that. I spent most of my afternoon debugging and learning some more Fortran. I think the program works now. I had been getting a strange error, I think the program was writing over itself. I couldn't isolate the cause, sadly, but I got a clean workaround, so that's fine.

Spit out a quick Java program for my operating systems class, as well. We're just getting into threads.

No word back yet on the internships, although I did get a jacket and some nice shoes to go with my tie and shirt. I even learned how to tie that darn thing. For someone with such spastic hands, it was quite a feat. Not much else to say, so I guess I'll tie this up.

Journal Journal: Internships

Well, I just applied for an internship with Reuters. Could be a fun experience. I have an interview with the Wal-Mart people on March ninth for an internship there. Either one would be great, as far as I'm concerned. Reuters would be in St. Louis, while Wal-Mart would just be an hour's drive from my current location.

Of course, if I could just find a local job in IT that I'd be able to keep on in to the Fall semester I'd probably go with that, although an internship would be highly tempting. I don't know, we'll see how it goes.

Oh, relooking at the job description I could also work for Reuters in New York City. That could be exciting, but I'm not sure how Amelia would feel about it. Plus, her birthday comes up in July and she'd probably want to see her family for that. Still, New York would be a nice chance to see how the city suits us. Who am I kidding? Wal-Mart and Reuters will pass on me, I'd be better served focusing on some low paying job here in town and making the best of that.

Journal Journal: First Entry

Amelia and I plan to get married this April. I still need to send off a request for an offical copy of my birth certificate so I can apply for a name change (we plan to merge our last names). Costs $91 and we'll have to take an ad out in the paper about it, but I think it'll be worth it.

I had a programming contest coming up on the 28th, but it's looking like I'll have to skip it so we can go on to Amelia's cousin's wedding. No big loss, I guess, just a day I'd probably forget. Unlike last year's contest were I wrote an infinate loop and crashed a UNIX mainframe. Defining point of my life, right there.

I guess I should hope the wedding will be just as memorable, but frankly, a cousin's wedding doesn't really hold much appeal to me when compared to C++.

On another note, I recently looked at the new Java specs and I must say, I got downright excited. I was happy to see they finally added some nice, simple features that are going to save me a lot of headache, not to mention make my code more readale, each time I want to do a few little things. I'll probably really settle in to playing with it next Fall, or this summer if I'm not able to get an internship anywhere. For now, this little student's going back to his books.
