Journal: NPR profiles plastics made from corn

NPR's Marketplace has recently ran a story on "Green chemistry". Even though these innovations and improvements don't amount to much (see the comment about so-called Green Chemistry being more public-relations than revolution), it is still heartening to see such improvements. People love to talk these days about kicking our "oil addiction". Well, yes, the massive amount of cars in this country does burn up a helluva lot of petrol...but even if we were to switch to electric cars today we'd still have the plastics industry consuming massive amounts of petroleum. Just another example of the difference between a politician's sound byte and the complex reality of a situation.
