Journal Journal: Not really using Journal much...

I really don't write in my journal on here much anymore, well I guess I never really did, but I found a new method... logging all convo's in gaim and priting them about every month... it's like I don't have to allocate time to write in my journal, and I just talk to my friends on IM about things relevant to my life and linux and whatever they're up too.... kinda works well

Journal Journal: Regionals 2002

Just got back from Regionals 2002... What fun... and how tiring... First we picked up Jordan and went to Dan's house @ about 5:30. Nick met us there and Dan's mom drove us the rest of the way to WI and we had an awesome time. Somehow my team decided on the name Vidi Amo (Latin for "Love Your Brother") LOL I should've been there when we voted....
Just about everyone (even the Iowans) spent the night there and we awoke @ 6:30 to Craig singing a nice loud solo which fits his character oh so well...
I didn't really eat very normal/healthy LOL I think I had mostly a combination of pop, yogurt, nutragrain bars, OJ, and candy (hehe but I still brushed my teeth... hows that work?) NE way the group is over at my house and they're game cubin w/o me... I think I'm gonna go join in....
Education

Journal Journal: Behind in school again....

It just alwasy seems like I'm behind in school... I think the reason(s) for this are #1 I'm enrolled in a tough program (Hewitt Homeschooling) #2 I'm a bit of a slacker at times #3 I don't have like any courses I really like (mainly English and History)

I think this will all change next year though... I'm looking into PSEO @ Century College where I can take some cool stuff on engineering and programming and CAD and electronics and stuff like that... That'll be so fun, ne way I probably should be working to catch up on school rather than writing in my journal so.... To anyone who's spying on this collection of person data :) I might not be writing in here for a bit...

(typing is so much faster than writing... It's wonderful...)

Journal Journal: Games in linux... namely starcraft

Trying to jump on the linux train is tough. At first you feel really stupid because you have to learn what you thought you were a guru on all over again. Thankfully I've always loved black space (console) so I caught on to that fast.
The next battle was figuring out what to do about games. I was like "hmm, I haven't seen any games in the store that say 'runs on linux' and I can't really be happy with the littl cool free ones that come with it like jezzball and solitaire. So what do I do?" Then I found a few places... 1) Loki (now shutdown) which I thought looked really good so I downloaded some of their demos like Descent 3 for instance. I was pretty impressed but there was a glitch in my Radeon drivers which caused stuff to like "freeze or melt" making walls turn to colorful mush and lasers turn to stone... hmmm that's not so good but they'll fix it in a few months I thought... I ended up buying D3 from tuxgames and though it was late in shipping and the jewel case was cracked I was very pleased with it. 2) WINE which everyone knows REALLY stands for "Wine Is Not Easy" but actually it isn't so bad. With the help of HOWTOs and linuxgames.com and winehq I was able to get Starcraft to run in WINE on it's own display without being root. Oh lemme tell ya that makes one feel special... I learned the whole xinit thing without any help just trial and error BTW :)
I found a cool project called Bnetd which is a clone of the battle.net interface for starcraft. Basically making it possible for me to have my own server... I downloaded it just in the nick of time it seems because like a week later blizzard shut it down because of DMCA stuff (worried about piracy). But enough of us /.ers complained to them that they released a patch to allows multiplayer LAN games via UDP. (IPX is a pain in the neck in linux AFAIAC) So I was overjoyed to get a multiplayer game working almost painlessly with both windows and linux clients. It was great. though on my bro's machine it was a bit slow...
Oh BTW I got my name on www.linuxgames.com (ixenator informed us that...) for telling them about this patch and wine and stuff... NE way I'd write more but it's sunday and I'm getting ready for church now.

I hope linux can tough it out and get some more gaming support.

Journal Journal: Getting used to /.

I hope I'm writing in my journal and not submitting a story or comment or something B-)
Slashdot is pretty cool, I heard about it when I was taking that linux course last summer.
Some guys from Real Time showed my slashdot and userfriendly and stuff like that. Made me feel like I was 31337 or something B-) yeah yesterday was the final Bible Quiz tournament of the year and my average was 100 (700 out of possible 770) which is higher than I've ever made before (thank you God!). When I got back I was chatting with some of my IM friends like calvin and I got caught up on the morpheus news, trade wars of course, and personal stuff. Now I've got mega school to get done this week...
I've been using /. for like almost a month now it's been my start page and I think it's really cool.
Now I found this journal thing hehe no wonder not many typical naive windoze end users hang out here, there's so much neat stuff to learn and try and feel cool about B-)
