Submission + - Obama makes a push to add time to the school year (dailycomet.com) 2

N!NJA writes: "Obama says American kids spend too little time in school, putting them at a disadvantage with other students around the globe.

"Now, I know longer school days and school years are not wildly popular ideas," the president said earlier this year. "Not with Malia and Sasha, not in my family, and probably not in yours. But the challenges of a new century demand more time in the classroom."

"Our school calendar is based upon the agrarian economy and not too many of our kids are working the fields today," Education Secretary Arne Duncan said in a recent interview with The Associated Press."

The Zune syncs to a different piece of software than WMP. From what I have seen, I like the interface better than iTunes, but I still think it is ridiculous for MS to have two media applications. I was really hoping that WMP would go away and let the more refined zune software to take over. oh well.

When Hacked PCs Self-Destruct 418

An anonymous reader writes "From The Washington Post's Security Fix blog comes a tale that should make any Windows home user or system admin cringe. It seems the latest version of the Zeus Trojan ships with a command that will tell all infected systems to self-destruct. From the piece: 'Most security experts will tell you that while this so-called "nuclear option" is an available feature in some malware, it is hardly ever used. Disabling infected systems is counterproductive for attackers, who generally focus on hoovering as much personal and financial data as they can from the PCs they control. But try telling that to Roman Hüssy, a 21-year-old Swiss information technology expert, who last month witnessed a collection of more than 100,000 hacked Microsoft Windows systems tearing themselves apart at the command of their cyber criminal overlords.'"

you forgot the part about telling Joe that none of his old programs or games will work anymore. Now he is going to have to search out FOSS apps that may or may not be complete. Don't even start on the "it will run under Wine" argument because who is going to set that up for him? For that matter, who is going to tell him about it in the first place?
