Sony's e-book

OK, so this is my first journal entry. I'm using it as a way to keep track of interesting things I see on /. The first occured today:

Star Trek Communicators

It talks about a company that has invented something very similar to, in function but not quite in size, the communicators worn on Star Trek: The Next Generation and beyond. With a tap of the button, and an utterance of another user's name, a connection is made using VoIP technology. I could see how this could get annoying in an unstructured environment ("Hey, I'm in the middle of class here!") but in a more structured environment like a Hospital or an aircraft carrier, it could work quite well - almost instant comms with anyone on board/in the building, etc. Not bad, not bad at all.
