i said today that i wanted to hire an engineer that we interviewed. good guy. decent resume. hopefully, he'll take the job. unfortunamentally, he's a mechanical engineer. yeah, yeah, i know. trained chimp. he's mustard though. :) (all in jest beeytoches, all in jest)

John Legend is the product of Kanye West in that his album was produced by, managed by, videos directed by, and merchandized by Kanye. Since Kanye blew up and has that Jay-Z/Roca line Legend's sound is very much what Puffy did for Mary: hip-hop soul. That kind of R&B over slower hip-hop breaks that are club ready (and perfect for bringing in an MC to provide those "tracks for the cats"). See also Ashanti and Irv Gotti, Ciara and Missy/Lil Jon. Even early Destiny's Child was a Wyclef production.
