Journal Journal: Day of Resistance
Lets see... Interesting stuff. Um... Today (Nov 1st) is the Day of Resistance here in Iraq. Not fun. Somehow, I got picked to go on a convoy to CPA. I had to drive the HumVee in the very back of the line. Before hand while we were waiting for the General to show up we were sitting here talking about our plans in case we start taking fire. Thats a first. We never really had to discuss stuff like that till this came up. The guy in the passenger seat locked and loaded his weapon to "Red Status" for the trip. Very fun... It was pretty much white knuckle driving the entire way. While there I got some coke, a Red Bull, a Kit-Kat, and an English-Arabic dictionary. So it wasn't all worthless. On the way back there was an MP convoy with some badass weaponry. They had some special mounts on the side of their HumVee's and mounted a couple of big ass guns. It was nice. We felt better when we saw the kind of firepower that was in front of us. Still, it was white knuckle driving. Today was not a day to mess around. People started passing us on the highway and I decided I wasn't going to have that. So I moved half my vehicle into the other lane. Nobody fooked with us. All my passenger had to do was raise the butt of his M-16 and people started to back off. Its nice being intimidating. Thats the newest time I've felt unsafe here. It definately rose the pucker factor. It sucks that I gotta be here for the rest of Ramadan. I hope I don't have to go on too many other convoys. Lets see... I only have to do the escort detail 2 more times. I'm gonna try and get some of the new Iraqi money. The exchange rate is about 2000 Dinar to $1. They always try to stiff you though. Punks. This whole week I have to work 12's. I have 0 free time. That first day that I get to come in late will be great. I'm so gonna catch up on sleep. Right now there is no set procedure for us leaving. We hope to get that changed here in the next few days. We should be able to make it happen. Our way home will be a lot more streamlined than the Army's way home. If there is no reason for us to stop somewhere, we won't. Well... Best laid plans of mice and men right? Thats about it.
