Journal Journal: Those nice machines

Ahh Silicon Graphics... I remember these machines, their OS (IRIX) and the shear feeling of quality you felt, literally through your finger tips. A long time ago, when I was a much younger programmer I remember being sent on a weeks trip to SGI's offices in Mountain View in California. I was sent to help their team integrate some bug fixes in to the 3D API called BRender developed at Argonaut. The project at SGI was called FireWalker and I still have the T-shirt ot this very day. FireWalker was basically a set of tools that enabled game code to be written once and then compiled for multiple platforms (PC,PSX,Saturn) thuis reducing development costs. Unfortunatly FireWalker died a death. It was a good idea but proved to be expensive I think. Sometimes though I still think back to the time at SGI with fond memories.
