I've noticed that people are getting new computers fully loaded with all the good stuff. P4 3.2 GHz, 1024 MB of Dual DDR, ATI Radeon 9800 XT....you know, the good stuff that makes gamers drool. So, they have these awesome systems from whoever, but they come loaded with so much garbage, that they run like...well, garbage. A system with those hardware specs should NOT take 4 minutes to fully boot up. It shouldn't lag when I open up IE, or the start menu. I mean, these computers run worse then my P3 700 with 384 MB of RAM. Its ashame becsause people pay good money for a top of the line system, but its loaded with so much junk, that it kills the OS and makes it pretty much unusable. I'm betting that the systems are getting anything close to what they should be when being used for games. It sucks for me as a tech, because I can't always plug my laptop in to configure the modem, because at one point or another, I'll have to use their PC to set up email and dialup. I guess I just wish that OEMs wouldn't pre-load PCs with junk. At the very least, load everything in, but don't make it start up with the PC. The customer doesn't need AOL and Real Player running at ALL times.
At least I can bitch to the customer a little. When they pop the question to me, "Did I buy a good PC?" I always reply by telling them they bought great hardware, but all the software thats running is slowing them down to hell. Sometimes if its a nice guy, I'll go through the reg and clear up his start up. That way at least, they can see what I'm talking about.
Oh well, more to come when I notice them.
