Journal Journal: Call Us "Generation A"
I've run across it a thousand times, posts or replies that mention how long someone has been using PC's. I am a long time user myself, and it occurred to me that people of my generation (from the dawn of the PC) should get a name to identify ourselves with.
I propose "Generation A".
There will be a few that are almost pre-historic (from the 70's) but I would venture to guess that most of us Gen A's date from the early to mid 80's, were avid BBS users and hooked up to the internet in the mid 90's. We all used Apple 2's or DOS, and later minimum Win 3.11 or first gen Macs and the REAL geeks among us used Unix etc. (I'm not in that category unfortunately).
We remember 1200 baud modems, the Bitch Goddess of Memory Management, the total frustration of backing up to floppy, and (after paying $600 for the burner and $5 per disk) taking 40 min to burn a CD and not daring to even touch the mouse in case the burn failed, the introduction of Win95 (Start Me Up - by The Rolling Stones), searching through boards for IP addresses for PUB's, the day that STB finally released the nVidia RIVA TNT 4mb (don't bother telling me that it was a cheat, it worked), BOOT Magazine, etc, you get it.
I could go on and on, but I hereby announce that me and people like me are now Officially named Generation A, and let the "newbies" come up with their own letter...
