Journal Journal: CRTC shuts down CHOI-FM, welcomes Al-Jazeera

Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced they will make the Al-Jazeera TV channel available in Canada. In the same week, CRTC decided to not renew CHOI-FM broadcasting rights, due to:

"the spoken word content, that was the subject of the complaints received, did not reflect isolated incidents, but appeared to be part of a pattern of behaviour by the licensee that continued and even grew worse, over the course of two consecutive licence terms despite clear, unequivocal warnings from the Commission, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council "

CHOI-FM and its owners wanted to correct its errors, and offered many solutions to CRTC such as censoring live shows by delaying it, but the CRTC never wanted to hear this.

Now I, and many of its 380 000 listeners, are wondering how come Al-Jazeera will be broadcasted live (beheading anyone?), while CHOI will be shutdown due to some comments that are by far less rough than Howard Stern's?

Both decisions are being made while there is no Minister of Canadian Heritage, when the labour break is about to start, and when the Parliament of Canada is off-duty for some time in summer.
Linux

Journal Journal: Linux failing, proven.

I saw a comment on /. saying that linux was (un)successful because of the rudeness / "elitism behavior" of veterans, IE being a total jerks towards newbies. Well today I have a proof of that. Sit back 'n relax. This was taken on #linuxhelp on EFNet, May13th 2000pm EST:

[bilange] golbez : whats wrong with redhat?
[Ef~Golbez] its an ex-os
[Ef~Golbez] heh
[Ef~jjshoe] Golbez it's NOT an os
[Ef~Golbez] ok a shell
[bilange] fedora core looks okay for me
[Ef~jjshoe] Golbez wrong again.
[Ef~jjshoe] Golbez redhat is a distrobution
[bilange] "distrobution"?? wrong :P
[Ef~Golbez] ok I stand corrected by technicality =]
[Ef~jjshoe] bilange i bet i can type a ban in for you properly..
[bilange] you dont need to prove it, ill pass
[Ef~jjshoe] bilange are you sure? i know my spelling is important to you
[bilange] im certain.

Okay. Maybe I shouldnt pick EFNet as an example, but who cares.

Journal Journal: Benny Benassi sucks

"Satisfaction" is from that guy. I hate that crap, hes popular only because he's talking about sex with a vocoder. Then he released some other songs and remixes, but it sounds all the same. Same vocoder, too. I was in a club last saturday and after 3 seconds of the beginning of the song i said "here we go, another Benny Benassi crap."

Wanna be popular? Try this.

- Download Fruityloops
- Make up a "techno-ish" loop in fruityloops. Doesnt matter if it sucks, the lyrics will come help. Add kicks and hi hats.
- Mess with a vocoder and let it talk about getting a blowjob from Carmen Electra, then add it to the new song.
- Publish it
- ...
- Profit.
- Repeat if you need more revenue.

While I think about it, maybe thats what spam are talking about when they say "work at home and get 50 000$ per month"! :)

Journal Journal: You know you're a computer geek when...

I was talking with some friends and someone mentionned about how he warms up his room with that cold season (I'm Canadian, and this week we had temperatures like -30 degrees Celcius). There was the usual answer like burning some wood in a funrnace (bad english, probably) and the usual warming methods..

I just replied "Me? If I want heat I just have to turn on my computer!"

I guess that was a geeky reply =P

Movies

Journal Journal: American Wedding - last movie?

I watched American Wedding not long ago, and I was thinking about the chances of having another american something movie afterwards.

When AP2 was out, i watched and said "ok, looks like there will be another one", but now it looks like American Wedding was a bonus movie, and there is no hope or hints saying "yes, we'll be back."

Whats your two cents?

I catched a cold last week on saturday. Then I catched it again on thursday. I wish I was immune to that. :(

Microsoft

Journal Journal: Microsoft Blocking non-MS Clients on MSN Messenger?

I got an e-mail from Microschnoft on my hotmail account a few days ago - heres (a part of) the body:

ATTENTION: IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED FOR MSN AND WINDOWS MESSENGER USERS.

You are receiving this e-mail because you are a MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger Service user.

[...]

NOTICE: If you are not using an updated version, you will be unable to continue using your MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger Service.

Thank you for helping Microsoft further its commitment to helping you protect your privacy and security online.

Do you think "not using an updated version" also includes non-MS clients? Maybe M$ just followed AOL on blocking 3rd party clients, after all.

Journal Journal: Jabber, anyone? (First postie, too) 1

Yeah, first post. About time, since my uid is considerably low. Anyway.

Who the hell uses jabber? It sounded like a good idea (and im sure MSN Messenger will either screw up or will be a paid service one day or another), so I am giving it a try, but im kinda all alone up there :P

Yea, uhm.. just add me to your list, kay? bilange[at]nureality[dot]ca
