So, I've finally decided to create a PVR. I just bought my MB/CPU/RAM from tigerdirect.ca, and I hope UPS doesn't screw it up.
mb is a Soyo P4I 845PEV
cpu is a celeron 2.7Ghz 128k 400FSB
and memory is Ultra 256MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz

Trying to spread out the whole cost over a few months, SO, I'm taking out a 30G HD of mine, and older video 16M video card, and a cheap case/power for $25.
I'm just gonna put linux on it for now, and test it. Next month, I buy the capture card, and the following month: 160G ata-serial, and fancy black "audio" case. Following after that, I want to buy 1Gbit ethernet and 1Gbit hub... and hook it up to my other PC's so it becomes my "multi media server".
I still having' figured out if I'm going with MythTV, or freevo. OR, what capture card to use.

Well, I guess some sd god or other decided my ip address ISN'T the ip address that some looser has/had for harassing slashdot. So I'm not banned any more! thanks again, whoever you are.... Will

Well, it looks like I'm blocked for good here at slashdot.org. It seems someone at sd has blocked whole ip addresses at rogers, because of some single user doing something to sd! I even sent emails from both my rogers and my 2 "work" email addy's. the only reply I got back was that "the" IP address was blocked because of mis use... the person didn't even try and give me help on solving the issue... go figure. I even called OSDN phone number and left a message, including my email address for someone to talk to: no such luck. IF, anyone here stumbles on my poor boring entries, and knows anyone at sd, can you give them a nudge so they can chat wid me? thanks Will

I have to make some decisions on what IT path to go down. Do I continue with being a Systems Admin, finally get my 2003 mcp, and slowly get cert(s)? in Unix (solaris/linux)? In the hopes... that one day, I'll be a REAL system admin, running a Unix sweat shop :D.

Focus on my Bajan Systems Services business, now that I have a SO that helps with the bills? Focus is geared to several different areas:
1. end user support (evenings)
2. daily contracts: sys admin for small mid-sized companies
3. exporting to my favorite island
4. and eventually, offering the Linux desktop / server alturnative to windoze to small / mid-sized companies.

Obviously the later has more freedom, and has more to offer me, to customize what I want in a job, BUT, it doesn't:
1. offer stability: the SO is wanting kids *GULP*
2. I have to do "crap" low pay office jobs until I fill in the time for real jobs....
