
Journal Journal: Technician's Plea
As friends I don't mind fixing your Computer.
But you must remember something too
When I tell you I'm going to get around to it
it means just that, I will fix it when I get around to it.
I know it hurts to hear you are not my biggest priority.
Or you hate the fact that I have a LIFE!
But I really mean it when I say I'll fix it, when I get around to it.
So don't be angry when I tell you bring it over
and you complain that you have to unplug stuff and throw it in your car. I know its a big inconvience for you to bring it to me. But its also a big inconvience for me to drive 20 minutes to you. To fix your stuff for FREE
But you want to know how to expedite your repair
have you tried taking it some place else?
perhaps an around the clock computer repair shop?
or perhaps paying me to fix it?
I know a shocker right? Pay your friend who you demand fix
your gear money to fix it!
You'd be suprised at how that motivates us. After all none of us became IT people for the money. We did it because we knew you'd want to call and "hang out" which is only a segway to can you fix this!
and when you arrive at my house, Please feel free to be shocked if I'm not home. Or to call my fiancee and tell her, "Why isn't he home!" because I know its a shocker
that you aren't my top priority. I know it must hurt to realize I wasn't sitting by the phone all day waiting for your support ca;;. After all I'm doing that M-F 40-60 hours a week. Why the hell would I be doing it on my down time!
And then when I have the computer in my possession don't bother calling me every hour. Because when I tell you I'll fix it when I get around to it, It means just that! Will I lose sleep over your computer, No! Will I take a sick day that may get me fired, absolutely not! Will I give up a round of Left 4 dead, a Eve War or my daily regiment of slashdot and IT news, Hell no! But I assure you when I get around to it I'll call.
How soon or how later depends on how many times you've called strangely the more you call the less i'm inclined to fix it. So harrassing me, Harassing my fiancee, doesn't motivate me. If you had wanted it fixed overnight you could have given me $100! that would have motivated me and fixed your stuff right quick.
So, i'm writing this as a plea on behalf of my fellow IT guru's we don't hate you when you cry something is broken. But please be respectful of our time and our lives!
