Journal Journal: break ups, break downs

I got a new job. Because of that, I could actually afford to buy a computer instead of piecing together equipment from the alleys of chicago (not that that's a bad thing: I did construct a G3 15gb / 512mb ram on a budget of zero, and found a g3 400 mhz upgrade card that works and is now in a friend's machine). So now the K7 1800xp is back thanks to a shuttle 45g chassis (small box because I change configurations rarely). Waiting for the nano ITX boards as well.
Well now, I best be off. work is done tonight.

Journal Journal: Linux PPC, USB deficiency, and kitchens

Man, for being nearly unemployed, today might have bordered on productive. Kernel 2.4.18 is running, I have something that resembles 3 mouse buttons for a one-button mouse, Kernel 2.6.1 is downloaded (but needs some more configuring before I can compile), I applied for two internships, cleaned the kitchen including that stack of dishes accumulated by my roommates mostly (food is a luxary), dreamed about owning a 2 ghz dual G5, read some, biked to Pilsen, biked around alleys looking for more gear (my current machine came from the trash, as did its precursor, a K6-3 450 running debian 2.2 for x86 and sporting the ever-so-stylish AT keyboard), got a flat 3 blocks from home, extracted a bottem bracket from the Specialized Rockhopper I am transforming into a mountain single, and set up Javier (the apartment multi-purpose machine) to share my digital camera right to the apartment subnet (so I can mount the camera's media on my G3, which does not sport a USB connectivity solution). Wow. One might think I actually did something useful.

Journal Journal: linux 2.4.18 kernel notes

keyboard_uses_linux_keycodes=0 is a good one. After about a week of searching, I finally found why my 2.4.18 kernel was getting all goofy. I feel foolish, but I should anyway using 2.4.18 when I could at least use 2.4.24 or 2.6.x. The funny thing is while I was searching for a way to make my adb 1-button mouse act like a 3 button in Xfree86, I came across messages on the problem. But since it didn't pertain to me at the time, I just ignored such posts / documents. Of course when I needed to find those documents, I could not remember the magical incantation I poured into google.com/linux to give me the correct result. Luckily a friend pointed out the whole keyboard_sends_linux_keycodes deal. Ah well
