Journal Journal: yEnc posting on usenet still not universal!

The other day I decided to break years of lurking on usenet and post a series of photos I took at an airshow to alt.binaries.pictures.aviation. Over 150 serious amateur/professional quality photos, stuff I have on my web site. I learned quickly that posting in yEnc was held in utter contempt by the regulars of the group. This after I actually went to the trouble of figuring out how to post in yEnc, which saves over 30% bandwidth/storage space. Apparently this group, which I have d/l'ed from for years, has settled on the old mime standard in spite of 2 years of solid experience with a clearly superior standard. Their bone of contention is, of course, that not every news reader supports yEnc. A quick check around the net will show that yEnc readers exist for every O/S and platform known to man, and free versions at that. What it boils down to is lazyness. Too effing lazy to research alternative readers, too effing lazy to learn a new program, too effing lazy to break out of the Microsoft mold. All of the complainers seem to be using Microsoft Outlook Express(tm) to read usenet messages. Why are there so many Ludites out there dictating what standards we need to use on the net?
