In my area (Northeast US) cars of that vintage are generally suffering from heavy rust. I gave up on my 2004 model that I loved after a series of rust related repairs was followed by another one that would have cost a few thousand. Your plan would probably work much better in a less salty area.

If you forget to turn it off after a hike it tracks the drive home or wherever you go. As a hiker I can confirm that it's really easy and annoying to forget to turn off tracking. I used Alltrails for a very short time before getting disgusted by their utter lack of privacy. They also charge for offline maps which is the one thing that might save a life in an emergency. Awful app with no thought about user safety in terms of privacy or natural dangers. I switched to an offline program for tracking myself.

Comment Good (Score 1) 56

Their once superior search service has only gotten worse as their goal changed from being good to being profitable. I don't think they have any recollection of how to be good anymore in the search space. It would be nice if ChatGPT and others would cause some innovation, but it seems like a long shot for Google to offer a new great service or for anyone else to make a dent in their search market share.

Comment Refund no problem (Score 1) 93

It is painful shopping at Amazon sometimes, but if you get something you don't like they always take it back for a refund. I always get data storage from Best Buy or directly from manufacturer though, too many stories like this. They're hoping you install it and fail to notice until after the return period is over.
