Submission + - New TI graphing calculator now public

An anonymous reader writes: Texas Instruments has just unveiled its next generation of graphing calculators the weekend with the TI-Nspire. TI calculators are famous not only in the educational arena but also with the hobbyist hacker crowd around the world because of the ease (or some would say complexity) of which it is to develop for them. The TI-Nspire comes in both CAS (computer aided algebra) and non CAS flavors, and as an added bonus, the non CAS models even includes a fully functioning TI-84+ compatibility mode using a replaceable TI-84+ keypad (which is sure to come as a delight to 84 hackers and gamers everywhere). It packs 20MB of storage and 16MB of memory, an ARM based processor, a 320x240 grayscale LCD, and a USB port. The TI-Nspire should be out in the fall to specific dealers, and in retail stores by early 2008, just in time for back to school in 2008.

Yaron writes: "The OCaml Summer Project (funded by the company where I work, Jane Street Capital) is aimed at encouraging the use of OCaml by funding students over the summer to work on open-source projects in the language. The project has started accepting submissions, with the final date being March 15th. It's a new approach to promoting the use of minority languages. It will be interesting to see if it catches on."

After reinstalling Vista Home, the user wasn't able to activate with the key he purchased so he called the activation line: "The Customer Service Manager told me that I could either borrow an XP Home disk from a friend (isn't that software piracy ??) or look online for one of the many Vista Activation cracks to bypass Vista Activation completely...Well, I followed his instructions." An anonymous reader writes "2007 is shaping up to be the most exciting year since the community drove off the XML highway into the Web services swamp half a decade ago. XQuery, Atom, Atom Publishing Protocol (APP), XProc, and GRRDL are all promising new power. Some slightly older technologies like XForms and XSLT are having new life breathed into them. 2007 will be a very good year to work with XML."

Jared writes: "The world's most famous BitTorrent pirates decide to permanently drop anchor in their home country of Sweden, saying the whole affair was really for them to be able to "look on Google Maps and find ourselves there." In a response from an ADMIN over at The Free Nation Foundation, which split from BuySealand to form a group of the truly committed, he writes that "Personally, I'd like to say I 'saw it coming', but truthfully, I can't. What I can say, though, is that I'm not all that surprised, especially after the roller coaster ride their forums took." — Now I just wonder what the guys who donated a share of the $25,000 bucks The Pirate Bay has in collected in donations so far think about the fact that their money was simply a big Google Earth ad. Refunds anyone?"

anomalous cohort writes: "The company that I work for is looking at upgrading to a proper firewall (sadly, we use only the MS-ISA server now). Our I.T. guy is ready to recommend Fortigate [45]00a. Ours is a small company with about a dozen employees and about 400 customers. Does anybody have any experiences, good or bad, with these two products or with the Fortinet company? Are there any recommended firewalls (outside of Cisco's) that we should seriously look at?"
