Comment Futurama happens! (Score 1) 904

Anyone else read this and immediately think of Futurama? This is basically what happened in their story.

I read this and chuckled to myself because I instantly envisioned a society full of active doddering old fools, running their own small time going-nowhere businesses, with hidden closets full of doomsday devices.

I'm cool with it, I'm just curious which company will end up as Momcorp...

Seeing as how they're based out of the stay I'm from and live in, we get to hear about them all the time.

These folks are NOT the moral beacons they try to portray themselves as.
They're simply a bunch of attention whoring assholes. I really wish news sources would stop posting stories about them as it only validates them further, but I guess it helps keep people aware of this particularly special breed of idiot.

Thanks Westboro, for being the pimple on the otherwise beautiful face of Kansas.

I find it's more surprising that more people had a clue. Twice as many in fact. I can't count the times I've heard folks refer to it as an "iPhone 4G", and had to stop myself from acting like an ass while correcting their mistake. (Don't like crApple products, just a pet peeve of mine. If you're gonna babble on about how great a product is, at least know the fucking name.)

I do agree with those who think the wireless carriers don't need to use the 4G term in marketing. They rake in enough cash as it is, there's no need to actively pursue making the general consumer more "stupid". That's just rude.

Agreed. I have been one of those people no longer excited about social networking for some time, and I find that Facebook has lost a lot of its' value. The only thing keeping me from leaving it is all the people and family I left when I transferred schools, and how easy it is to stay in contact with them. These sites are still an adequate tool for maintaining such relationships, but it can be frustrating to do so with all the mindless junk that gets mixed in.

What is sad yet no less true is that sites like Facebook are seen as a requirement for being a social person. Being an introverted person, this fact seems to glare at me the more I use Facebook. I have tried being the social person that "shares" with everyone, but anymore I find myself cherishing the genuine human contact I receive from actually talking to people. Sure Facebook is great for wasting a couple minutes to catch up with everything going on in your world. But its good for no more than that. Life truly is more fulfilling when you just close that tab, and do something else. I'm not leaving it, just leaving it alone.

Is it just me, or could B&N's position on this be applied to the current Apple v. Samsung case?
Say, just replace all instances of Microsoft with Apple?

I know, I know, they're not the same issue in each case.
But the two sometimes act eerily similar when it comes to dealing with Android...

I fully condone this act. I am proud to call myself a Kansan, not proud to share this state with the likes of Fred Phelps. He gives the rest of the decent people in this state a bad name. Homosexuals are people too and he has no shred of common decency in his body, nor does any member of his "family", if they choose to persecute others as they do. At funerals no less. It really does warm my heart to hear that Anonymous has gone after Fred Phelps and his "gang". They try to spread a message of peace and "God's love", but all they do is spread a message of hate for their fellow man. F@&king hypocrites.

Sorry if I sound like troll or just a plain hatemonger. But if you were born and raised in a state where a guy like him came from, I would hope you would understand.
