Submission + - DHS official criticizes 'PlayStation generation'

PetManimal writes: "The Department of Homeland Security's research director, Jay Cohen, is unhappy about the state of science education in the United States, saying that the "PlayStation generation" wants immediate gratification and avoid math and science because these subjects are too hard. While there has been an undeniable downward trend in undergraduates studying IS/CS, the reason may have less to do with instant gratification than fears about slow IT job growth and IT careers being offshored to places like China and India. Bill Gates, in an opinion piece in the Washington Post, says there is a shortage of qualified technical workers in the United States. He claims the situation has reached a "crisis point", and the solution, besides boosting science and math education, is to increase the number of H1B visas."

Meanwhile, increasing evidence indicates that most of the warming comes of natural phenomena. Dr. Allegre now sees global warming as over-hyped and an environmental concern of second rank.
