Comment Re:The real problem? Unions (Score 1) 146

It is working great here in Lincoln, Neb. Elementary and middle school are 100 percent in-person unless a parent chooses to have their child go remote. High schools are on a split schedule, half are remote half the days and in person the other half.

There have been NO outbreaks in our schools. It has gone extremely well. Yes, masks are required of course and other adjustments were made but both my first grader and my 10th grader are handling it very well.

And in speaking with my next door neighbors, both of whom are teachers in the same school system, they tell me it has gone pretty darn well too.

There. I said it.

The real problem here are the teachers unions. Science-based medical and health professionals around THE WORLD are saying schools are safe, are needed, and that the best place for kids to be is in school. And yet in the US the largest teachers unions are fighting with every ounce of energy they have AGAINST reopening schools.

Suddenly the same people who early on screamed "but but SCIENCE" are now giving science the middle finger, because they simply don't want to go back to work and yet continue to collect a paycheck.

I realize outlawing unions is not possible. However, if we would simply outlaw compulsory union membership agreements and direct-debit union dues from paychecks (meaning instead those choosing to join a union would have to write a check themselves every month) these problems would fix themselves.

About 15 years ago I bought a Sony MDR-V700DJ headphone set. I paid about $350 for them, and still use them today.

Granted, they are corded, and no microphone, but the sound from them is beyond incredible. I use them for live audio mixing. They are comfortable for hours at a time, the sound is absolutely stellar, and they do a very good job blocking out outside sound.

Running the inflation numbers, they'd be about $466 today.

I'm not in the market for Apple's headphones, but IMHO the only thing missing is a 1/8-inch audio input. Yes, wireless! Bluetooth! Meh. Maybe my market focus is small, but if you're at a sound board or recording booth all day, you want corded. No one wants to be 9 hours into a session and have their headphone batteries die. Not to mention Bluetooth isn't a feature you'll really find on audio mixing gear.

Biden pulled in hundreds of millions of dollars.

A full 50 percent of it from UNEMPLOYED donors too. Talk about a gigantic loophole. In a pandemic with people out of work, that many people had spare cash to donate to a campaign? Normally you have to enter your employer when making a political contribution. But strangely enough, half of the donors in Biden's recent $348 million (or whatever it was) record month was literally untraceable because donors claimed they were unemployed.

Foreign election money anyone?

Also, look at where and how costs have increased at universities. It has NOT been for teaching staff/professors. The lopsided admin level people is where the costs are at. The universities keep adding high-priced deans and VPs and all that garbage that is so far removed from a classroom, and then turn around and say "but tuition costs reflect actual costs!"

Nice try. Dump all the worthless executives and costs will come down.
