Submission + - Apple sues HTC over patents (businessinsider.com)

gandhi_2 writes: From Business Insider:

Apple today filed a lawsuit against mobile devices maker HTC. The suit claims infringement of 20 patents related to the iPhone's user interface, underlying architecture, and hardware.

It looks like the Nexus One, and other HTC phones, may have hit too close to home for Steve Jobs. Maybe adding multitouch to the Nexus One pushed Apple over the edge?

Submission + - Apple Sues HTC for 20 Patent Violations in Phones (techcrunch.com)

eldavojohn writes: Taiwanese HTC is being sued by Apple for 20 patents regarding the many phones HTC manufactures. Jobs was quoted as saying, 'We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.' Apple has similar patent litigation with Nokia and may be trying to scare the rest of the industry into licensing patents similar to the Microsoft-Novell and Microsoft-Amazon deals regarding patents covering Linux functionality.

This is funny only because I once had a conversation with someone using SSID. It was back and forth quips everyday about how my house is better than theirs and so on and so forth.. I realized how incredibly interesting it was to have a "conversation" with SSIDs and how incredibly geeky it was..
