So because some journalist made over the top claims, the science is false? Is that what you are saying?

Not at all, things are true regardless of how the news reports them. I looked at this from sociological POV not a GW science position. So wether or not GW is true makes no difference in my assessment.

I also could add Al Gore to the major fear mongers also. According to Al Gore we are just over three years from end of the earth.

The real problems are the hype and more pressing concerns to people.

Comment People Are Not Taken Into Account (Score 1) 1181

I AM NOT TAKING SIDES.
1. People look back and see that the claims (at least in media) have been over the top. According to Kyoto we are past the point of no return. So why bother.

2. (and more important) people are far more concerned right now about the here and now. Real unemployment over 10%. Devalue of money. Price of gas, food, housing, clothing and everything else people need. People are far more concerned with kitchen table issues right now. People are worried about the here and now not about 50 years from now or even 3 years from now.

Two Analogies.

"I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain." -- John Adams.

Right now we are back at the level of politics and war. (Not the most perfect analogy but it will do for now.) And the GW folks wants people to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, and the rest. Just not going to happen.

OR to place this on the Maslow pyramid. People are worried about food, water, shelter (basic needs) for the future and for now or at least the safety needs. And the GW people want self-actualization or at least the esteem needs. Just not going to happen.

FOIA is the real issue here. Who really cares that there is more Web 2.0 (in the big scheme of things). After all they are putting up and highlighting stuff that makes Obama look good.

Real transparency comes from allowing people to see records. In this case, the administration has failed without any mitigation.

So by FOIA this is one of the most closed presidents.

Solar Panels For Your Pants 81

Phoghat writes "A new line of clothes come with its own solar panels to charge small electronics in your pocket. It might be overdoing the 'Green' technology but for the low, low price of $920, you can own a pair of Go Urban Cargo Pants, which boasts 'fly front, low-slung drawstring waist, and two back patch pockets with button down flaps,' but the main reason you might want them is the: "'two side cargo pockets with independently functioning power supply.'"

I earned a degree from WGU. I also did it in record time. Why? Life experience. I went for a teaching degree. I already had a 4yr degree in an area that was not able to be certified. I did the program that suited me. I needed another BA.

I was able to whip through the program quickly, because I had already been teaching for three years. I know the core stuff of the degree. I had taught and was able to draw on experiences for the papers on: make a plan to do XXX.

Time was a another factor. I was able to work at my own pace. Which turned out to be 8-12 hours a day, 5-6 days a week.

Oh yeah. no problem getting a job. One interview. One job.

Why Are Video Game Movies So Awful? 385

An article at CNN discusses why big screen interpretations of video games, even successful ones, often fail to succeed at the box office. Quoting: "The problem with successfully adapting video games into hit Hollywood spin-offs may lie in the way in which stories for both mediums are designed and implemented. Game makers chasing the dream of playing George Lucas or Steven Spielberg will always strive to coax human emotion and convincing drama from increasingly photorealistic virtual elements. The Hollywood machine, in its endless chase for big bucks, can't help but exploit the latest hit interactive outing, often failing to realize it's often a specific gameplay mechanic, psychological meme or technical feature that makes the title so compelling. Both sides may very well continue to look down in disdain on the work that the opposite is doing, which can doom any collaborative efforts. But where the two roads truly diverge is in the way stories are fundamentally told. Films offer a single, linear tale that's open to individual interpretation, whereas games are meant to be experienced differently and in a multitude of ways by every player." On a related note, reader OrangeMonkey11 points out that an 8-minute short has showed up online that appears part of a pitch for a potential Mortal Kombat reboot movie.
