Uhm.... this is Sims 8 on PS4 dude. Sounds to me like your consciousness lost some parts of your memory in the transfer and your subconscious is making up for it in the form of an unintentionally ironic Slashdot post on SimWeb.

Let me tell you about houses full of crap. Multiple sets of all the armors, weapons, and huge amounts of reagents all laid out on the floor in neat grids.

.

Oh god I've been there man. I had all the armor sets laid out neatly by the metal, hundreds of potions nicely lined up on the shelves. I even had a special alchemy corner with all the Master potion making shit and barrels full of all the ingredients that I had been collecting since i started.

Now I look back and wonder what the hell I was thinking (just like I do with WoW and EQ) but it was funny how satisfied I was just hoarding shit in that game. I kept my in-game house cleaner and more organized than anywhere I've lived since then. Maybe if I start accumulating tons of weapons and armor I'll be motivated to clean up my place so I can display it all. =P

Submission + - Super Laser Unveiled Today in California (yahoo.com)

Gravedigger3 writes: "A US weapons lab on Friday pulled back the curtain on a super laser with the power to burn as hot as a star. The National Ignition Facility's main purpose is to serve as a tool for gauging the reliability and safety of the US nuclear weapons arsenal but scientists say it could deliver breakthroughs in safe fusion power.

"We have invented the world's largest laser system," actor-turned-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said during a dedication ceremony attended by thousands including state and national officials.

NIF is touted as the world's highest-energy laser system. It is located inside the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory about an hour's drive from San Francisco. Equipment connected to a house-sized sphere can focus 192 laser beams on a small point, generating temperatures and pressures that exist at cores of stars or giant planets.

NIF will be able to create conditions and conduct experiments never before possible on Earth, according to the laboratory."

Submission + - New HDMI 1.4 spec set to confuse

thefickler writes: "HDMI Licensing LLC, the company that determines the specifications of the HDMI standard, is set to release the HDMI 1.4 spec on 30 June. Unfortunately it could very well be the most confusing thing to ever happen to setting up a home theater. When the new cables are released, you're going to need to read the packaging very carefully because effectively there are now going to be five different versions of HDMI to choose from — HDMI Ethernet Channel, Audio Return Channel, 3D Over HDMI, 4K x2K Resolution Support and a new Automotive HDMI. At least we can't complain about consumer choice."

Verizon Tells Cops "Your Money Or Your Life" 593

Mike writes "A 62-year-old man had a mental breakdown and ran off after grabbing several bottles of pills from his house. The cops asked Verizon to help trace the man using his cellphone, but Verizon refused, saying that they couldn't turn on his phone because he had an unpaid bill for $20. After an 11-hour search (during which time the sheriff's department was trying to figure out how to pay the bill), the man was found, unconscious. 'I was more concerned for the person's life,' Sheriff Dale Williams said. 'It would have been nice if Verizon would have turned on his phone for five or 10 minutes, just long enough to try and find the guy. But they would only turn it on if we agreed to pay $20 of the unpaid bill.' Score another win for the Verizon Customer Service team."

Sci-Fi Writers Dream Up Ideas For US Government 123

cheezitmike writes "This week in Washington, DC, a group of Sci-Fi writers is helping the US Department of Homeland Security envision the future at the 2009 Homeland Security Science & Technology Stakeholders Conference. The agency is hoping the interaction between writers and bureaucrats helps the government 'break old habits of thought' and 'help managers think more broadly about projects and their potential reactions and unintended consequences.' And, it's at minimal expense to taxpayers, since the writers are consulting pro bono."

Submission + - Plastic and fuel that grows on trees (gizmag.com)

Tim Hanlon writes: Biofuels continue to steal the spotlight when it comes to the search for a renewable, environmentally friendly replacement for crude oil. While that's understandable when considering the transport industry, crude oil is also used in the production of conventional plastics and chemical products such as fertilizers and solvents. Now chemists have learned how to convert plant biomass directly into a chemical building block that can not only be used to produce fuel, but also plastics, polyester and industrial chemicals cheaply and efficiently.

Professor Peter Bruce as well as all the people at the Chemistry Department at the University of St Andrews disappeared early this morning, several spokesmen from Big Oil expressed their sympathy to the families of these men and women as well as their sadness that all research on the subject had been lost in an unrelated fire at the University.

This was especially heartwarming since Big Oil had no relationship with anyone involved and had released their statements before the families had even noticed they were missing.
