One way to verify who you are is to either require you reset your password from the console you last connected to the PSN with or just send an email to the email address they have stored... Because, theoretically neither of those items are accessible to the hackers.

For me my computer desktop is just a convenient folder that most selection windows point to. I find it far too much of a hassle to ever minimize my windows. As for my desk... I think it is becoming sentient, and maybe able to reproduce, as more stuff shows up on my desk then I remember placing there. But, it is usually exactly what I am looking for though, so I haven't bothered to investigate yet.
