Either I'm misreading their comment, or maybe you are. I don't think they're suggesting you shouldn't be able to make cosmetic/non-essential changes with this tech. I think they were just implying that without proper oversight genetic treatments/improvements could be designed to target selective groups (i.e. only fix the cholesterol issues in white people).

I assume the daily hours remained the same and weren't upped to offset the change (i.e. working four 10-hour days instead of five 8's), but that would be a good detail to know. I'm also curious on the specific companies that trialed this and felt it was successful. There's a big difference between a sales company where the commission drives people's salaries and a manufacturing company where employees have a static weekly workload/output that has to be maintained.

If FoxConn wer required to actually hire the people they promised to hire, or give all the money back, plus a penalty, then the state would have actual jobs instead of a vague hand-wave.

This implies the government officials that approved the massive multi-billion dollar subsidies didn't already realize most of that money (and the promises that came with it) was going to evaporate.

Was it just an email? Was it actually via a brokerage site similar to conducting a transaction on eBay where a terms of service had been agreed to, etc.? While my instinct is to side heavily with Mr. Merryman, the details of the transaction are kind of important.

True but there's no standardization amongst users. Assuming they actually do mark them up, 20 different cat videos might have 20 different hashtags to include #catz, #puddytat, #purrmonster, etc. Making sense of all these and pulling them together via automation probably isn't as simple as you, or even I, think.
