jogden writes: A 1936 Philco radio turned into a PC-Based Linux Multimedia device. The 71-year old radio found in a barn has been restored to look and function like the 1936 radio did, but instead is a computer. From the article:

"As it stands now, it has a FM tuner card, CD player, MP3/OGG support, streaming media support (can take ogg streams from my desktop), and is linked to local file server music directory."

Submission + - Get in line: The rush for H-1B visas is on

coondoggie writes: "With the deadline of April 1 — actually since that's a Sunday, the deadline is April 2 — filing for an H-1B visa. Experts say this year's allotment of 65,000 slots will likely be exhausted in record time — time measured in days or weeks not months as in years past. And the agency that oversees the visas, the US Citizen and Immigration Service (USCISC) has told the public that it will not accept any applications received earlier than April 2 and reject those filed before the start date. This means people who planned on filing their petitions on Friday, March 30 with the USCIS to accept on March 31 will have their cases rejected, USCISC says. http://www.networkworld.com/community/?q=node/1316 3"

Submission + - Popular HD DVD Disc Hits a Snag

An anonymous reader writes: Following weeks of headlines touting strong sales for Blu-ray discs, rival next-gen format HD DVD looked like it had its own success story in the making with this week's HD DVD release of the cult hit 'Children of Men.' The disc recieved a stellar review at High-Def Digest, and went on to out-sell the most popular Blu-ray discs on Amazon. But now comes word of apparent incompatibility issues with the Xbox 360 HD DVD player, with some (but not all) consumers reporting that even multiple returns of the disc are unplayable on the format's leading playback device.

Submission + - Massive Yahoo Groups Glitch Bombards Inboxes

Talaria writes: "What appears to be a massive internal glitch in the Yahoo Groups system has caused users' inboxes to be overloaded, and left Yahoo Groups owners and moderators dealing with complaints and dozens of copies of every administrative request. According to reports, Yahoo users' inboxes have been filled beyond storage capacity, with no relief in sight. No word yet from Yahoo on the cause of the problem or when it will be fixed. Ironically, Yahoo just announced that starting in May, all users will have unlimited storage capacity for email."

Journal Journal: VIRTUALIZATION: Qemu on a Stick 1

A USB stick.. Actually three of them to be exact. Seeing that these "jump drives" have been coming down in price, I bought two of them for $15 at a size of 2 gigs each recently. Happy birthday to myself. I already had a 1 gig stick. So.. I decided to see what I could do with these things. They're so cheap I don't care if I do break them with my playing around. So here's what I did:

Submission + - Musicians Fight For Net Neutrality

Erin Lenseth writes: "Musicians are now fighting for net neutrality, fearing that certain internet providers will soon charge a fee to those who want their websites to have faster loading times. The Rock the Net Campaign, an advocacy group composed of lesser known artists, is now being backed by the Future of Music Coaliation, which is supported by the likes of R.E.M. This begs the question- are ISPs going too far in their quest to generate more profit?"

doti writes: The Free Software Foundation (FSF) today released the third discussion draft for version 3 of the most widely used free software license, the GNU General Public License (GNU GPL).

Today's draft incorporates the feedback received from the general public, official discussion committees, and two international conferences held in India and Japan. In recognition of this fact, the FSF now plans to publish one additional draft before the final text of GPL version 3.

Submission + - Wii bowling over U.S. retirees

murdock238 writes: ""That bet paid off. The Wii outsold the new Microsoft and Sony consoles in January and February and is generating its own buzz with everyone from nuns to cancer patients to toddlers. There are Wii parties and Wii bowling contests. Players, who often look quite silly and occasionally injure themselves in fits of overzealous play, upload video of their Wii antics to a variety of technology Web sites like GameTrailers.com and Google's YouTube. "I thought it was tremendous," said Ted Campbell, 77. Last week he played the Wii for the first time at Springfield, Virginia's Greenspring Retirement Community, where Ebert is also a resident.""
