Australia follows in the US' footsteps, we're a car-obsessed suburbia here. Public transport is frustratingly sparse or non-existent.

This is in contrast to many European countries like Switzerland where you can step outside your apartment and literally walk 2 mins to get to the supermarket/pharmacy. Here in Australia, the supermarket giants Woolworths and Coles have gobbled up a lot of smaller stores so there are much fewer places to shop from now, you basically have to walk a long distance or drive a car to get your groceries.

I'm gobsmacked at how socially irresponsible city planning is here in Australia. Oh, and we've built up the world's biggest real estate bubble too, but that's another story.

A lot of your issues only apply if you use it mainly as a Windows laptop. Obviously it was designed to be used as a Mac, first and foremost.

I haven't tried a right-button drag in Boot Camp before, but what do you actually use it for in any case? I've been using Windows all my life and can't recall ever using a right-button drag.

Why are you confused? Most Slashdot posters seem to think what Samsung is doing is OK and reasonable -- presumably because they're a competitor to Apple. If Apple did the same thing as what Samsung did, they would of course be evil scum and low-life baby killers.

True, though it should be pointed out that you can still use regular supersonic rounds with a suppressed rifle -- it just means the sound suppression won't be as effective. But the benefits of using suppressors are still there, especially when fighting inside buildings, or when fighting at night against a technology inferior enemy.

You can run rings around enemies who aren't equipped with nightvision devices if you have suppressed weapons, it makes your muzzle flash harder to spot at night.

Apple is also one of the big notable companies which has support for the disabled at the forefront of its products.

I agree this is a frustrating issue. I suspect Apple will never implement a shared filesystem that is accessible to all apps. Instead, they'll probably use the cloud for sharing -- possibly with a Mobile Me-like solution (which will be free to iOS users).

I love using Apple products and I would rather he just buy and use an Android-based or other "open" device instead. I've never seen the appeal of jailbreaking, it's far too messy for my tastes.

I definitely don't consider the Kindle to be a tablet, and neither do most other people. In fact, a lot of people own both a Kindle plus a tablet computer (iPad or Android-based tablet).

The Kindle is successful because it does one thing very well, and that's ebook reading. It essentially sucks at everything else. I love my Kindle for reading, despite the fact that it has an appallingly bad and klunky user interface.

The iPad is a completely different beast to the Kindle. And that's why both Amazon and Apple can be successful in the arena. Pundits like to claim they're competing against each other, but they're not -- at the moment. Who knows what the future will bring...
