Comment Re:Anyone else notice the slow responses from Goog (Score 1) 152

Same thing here (Morocco) for nearly two weeks now, all Google sites are affected (google.com, Gmail, Blogspot, Youtube, etc.), even doubleclick.net and the domain serving adwords (don't remember the exact) are afected too, which has the effect of slowing the numerous sites using them. I have noticed that this has coincided with a new surge of conflics between Google and the chinese governement, I wonder if this a a massive DDOS attack as a retaliation by pro-governement Chinese hackers, this has already happened in the past.

Yes never ! all what Artificial Intelligence can achieve is solving some problems in very narrow domains, and when it's done you can call it a program. To acquiere a Human Intelligence you need social interaction with other humans beings, you need emotion, you need to acquire the human language, intelligence expresses itself in the human language thus Intelligence = language, this is something a machine will never be able to achieve. What make you a human is the language you speak, this is why Wild Childs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wild_Child) are not humans.

Modern Warfare 2 Not Recalled In Russia After All 94

thief21 writes "After claims that console versions Modern Warfare 2 had been recalled in Russia due to complaints from politicians and the gaming public over the infamous airport slaughter scene, it turns out the stories were completely untrue. Activision never released a console version of the game in Russia." Instead, they simply edited the notorious scene out of the PC version. They did this of their own volition, since Russia doesn't have a formal ratings committee.

First Android-Based Netbook, Set-Top Box 114

An anonymous reader writes "China based Skytone famous for making skype headsets have brought out a $100 device, the Alpha-680 netbook running Google Android for its OS. The device has Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB ports and an SD card slot. After watching the video though, I get a feeling that the boot time is somewhat long. IMO good enough for browsing." Also on the Android front, ruphus13 points out what the maker claims is the first "fully realized" non-mobile Android device (though I think there were some other non-mobile gadgets on diplay at CES), a set-top box from Motorola based on Android. According to the linked post, it's "capable of playing DVDs and CDs, transferring music and video to a mobile device, and ripping and storing files" and "will have a full-featured Chrome-like browser."

Open Source Growing At an Exponential Rate 146

sipmeister writes "Two computer scientists who work for enterprise software giant SAP have shown that open source is growing at an exponential rate. Not only is the code base growing exponentially, but also the number of viable projects. Researchers Amit Deshpande and Dirk Riehle analyzed the database of open source startup ohloh.net and looked at the last 16 years of growth in open source. They consistently got the best fit for the data using an exponential model. Relating this to open source market revenue, Desphande and Riehle conclude that open source is eating into closed source at a non-trivial pace."
