Submission + - 9 Features Apple Should Include In iOS 5

adeelarshad82 writes: Apple fanboy or not, we have to admit that Apple knows how to deliver a quality product. iOS 4.3 is perfect example of that. However it's not perfect. Given that the much anticipated iOS 5 will most probably be announced next week, PCMag rounds up top 9 things they would like the next version of iOS feature such as the NFC support to keep up with Android phones and wireless syncing simply because you would think most phones would have this by now.

Submission + - Lack Of Technology Puts Star Wars Series On Hold 1

adeelarshad82 writes: It was back in 2007 when we first heard about George Lucas making a live-action tv series focusing on characters from Star Wars. Almost four years later, it seems the idea of ever seeing this live-action show is still living in a galaxy far, far away. In a recent interview, George Lucas mentioned that the technology to produce the show in a cost-effective way doesn’t exist yet, and that the cost of producing an episode is about ten times of what it should be.

Submission + - Man order to tweet 100 times for defamation (malaysiakini.com)

durianwool writes: To avoid a defamation suit, a man in Malaysia has settled with lawyers that he will tweet 100 times over the next 3 days that he's sorry for defaming a magazine company. Originally realising the mistake in an original tweet, the man issued an apology tweet. That was not acceptable to the company, and the company (also his employer) pursued the matter with lawyers which demanded he place ads in newspapers. Not being able to afford newspaper advertisements, which can cost up to tens of thousands of ringgit, Fahmi Fadzil agreed to settle the matter with a series of apologies on Twitter instead.

Submission + - Celox More Effective In Clotting Arterial Bleeds

adeelarshad82 writes: Celox, a flaked form of the clotting agent chitosan, is revolutionizing how military and medical personnel deal with bleeds, from the smallest scrapes to full-blown arterial fire hoses. Celox is easy to use — you just pour it on an open wound and apply pressure — and both safer and faster-acting than similar products. The best bit, though, is that the active ingredient, chitosan, is extracted from the shells of crabs and shrimp.

Submission + - Massive Gmail phishing attak hits top US officials (cnn.com)

suraj.sun writes: Massive Gmail phishing attack hits top US officials:

Hundreds of personal Gmail accounts, including those of some senior U.S. government officials, were hacked as a result of a massive phishing scheme originating from China, Google said Wednesday.

The account hijackings were a result of stolen passwords, likely by malware installed on victims' computers or through victims' responses to e-mails from malicious hackers posing as trusted sources. That type of hack is known as phishing. Gmail's security systems themselves were not compromised, Google said.

The company believes the phishing attack emanated from Jinan, China. In addition to the U.S. government personnel, other targets included South Korean government officials and federal workers of several other Asian countries, Chinese political activists, military personnel and journalists.

Nicknamed "worms from hell", these nematodes open new windows for research into life both on Earth and off."

Many flip phones because of their geometry kept the radiating part sufficiently away to be much less a concern, but almsot all smartphones today are unibody designs which means the EMF emitting body and screen is in direct contact with your head.

So THAT'S why the antenna for the iPhone 4 is on the outside. And I thought Steve Jobs was just interested in mind control.

Submission + - North Korea Training "Cyberwarriors" Abroad (itworld.com)

jfruhlinger writes: "A North Korean defector claims that the secretive totalitarian state is nurturing a team of "cyberwarriors," identifying young people with computer skills and sending them abroad to learn the latest hacking techniques, while lavishing priviledges on their families at home to keep them loyal. This could lead to an escalation in tensions, especially given that the U.S. military believes that cyberattacks from foreign countries constitute acts of war."

Submission + - More details of first quantum computer (technologyreview.com)

holy_calamity writes: "Technology Review explains that the the quantum computing system recently bought by Lockheed is actually a specialised co-processor to help a conventional computer with machine learning tasks. D-Wave's system is hard-coded with a particular machine learning algorithm that solves problems using a network of linked superconducting qubits. A coder can use an API to push data to the specialised processor as needed to improve the accuracy of the trained software. Google are using a D-Wave system as a kind of exotic cloud service, having software in Mountain View use the APIs over the internet."
