They're getting tougher on towers on Long Island. The town of Hempstead, NY has imposed some of the toughest cell phone tower restrictions in the country. The ordinance prohibits wireless equipment within 1,500 feet of homes, schools, day care centers, and houses of worship, unless the company can prove absolute need. A spokesman for Verizon says "It's not unheard of for towns to have issues, but this is extreme".....and says this makes 95 percent of the town off limits to future antenna construction.

You can follow all the celebrities you want on Twitter, but how would you like one of them to follow you? Maybe Demi Moore? How about Snoop Dogg? This week EBay is hosting a charity auction where bidders can get celebrities to follow them and retweet their posts...even tweet their usernames. The auction will benefit earthquake relief in Haiti.

Here's one way to deal with spotty cell phone coverage....backstop the network on a satellite. AT&T is now selling its first satellite-enabled smart phone....which could be invaluable for boaters, forest rangers, and others who regularly leave regular cellular coverage areas. But the TerreStar Genus comes with a hefty price tag: $799.....and the data costs are as sky-high as the satellite....400 times more than a standard plan. It also has to have a clear view of the southern sky, which means it can only be used outdoors.

Forget the sunbelt...the cooler climate of Western New York was a huge selling point for Yahoo, which opened its new data center near Buffalo Monday. Picture a technologically advanced chicken coop design....with winds off Lake Ontario helping to cool the facility and lower energy costs. The design is so efficient, using 40 percent less energy and 95 percent less water than conventional data centers, it earned a nearly $10 million sustainability grant from the Department of Energy.

Google is hoping an extra step will keep hackers and imposters out of users' email and other password-protected services. An additional security measure requires entering a six-digit code after the password...at least the first time account-holders log in from a particular computer. After that, users can ask Google to remember their identity verification, and the security codes won't be needed again. The codes will be sent to the user's mobile phone....to make it easier to get the codes, Google has created a security app for the iPhone, Blackberry, and phones using Android software.

Twitter is doing the Time Warp. Just in time for the home stretch of this year's elections, things Jackie Kennedy wrote during JFK's campaign 50 years ago are being tweeted out. The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library is taking excerpts from the former First Lady's weekly newspaper columns called "Campaign Wife". Jackie Kennedy wasn't allowed to hit the campaign trail on doctor's orders due to her pregnancy. The first tweets, expressing disappointment about not being able to campaign, were posted 50 years to the day since her first column was published.

The lawsuit says Village Voice Media knowingly allowed the girl's pimp to advertise her services on the site backpage.com. Planning to buy a 3-D television this year? Looking forward to buying all those 3-D movies that have hit theaters the past couple years? Hold that thought. According to a British research firm, most of the 3-D movies likely to be available this year will be tied to the purchase of a TV made by a specific manufacturer. In other words the studios and the TV makers are making deals. The analyst behind the research says "The exclusive bundling deals can't go on for too long, or it's going to be a problem".
