Comment No tooltips please! (Score 1) 43

There are some web pages that instantly pops up a tooltip while hovering over a link (sometimes very big, covering everything on the surroundings).

I find that extremely annoying, even nowadays using the mouse, so I guess trying to read those pages using this tech will be next to impossible.

Please get rid of it, just like the infamous blinking text

Comment AIDS (Score 1) 478

Here in Chile, a couple of years ago a judge declared that a convict was cured from AIDS during his time served
(actually he was wrongly diagnosed with AIDS and had to serve his time in a separate jail, around other prisoners carrying HIV, when they let him go, he was "cured")

one can expect everything from lawyers/justice.

I think, the reference to Transparent Aluminum is at least specified in ST:IV. while Transparisteel cannot be considered canon as is not referenced in any movie. Or is it?

Anyway, Transparent Aluminium is almost a reality, as we've already seen.

Maybe this discovery will give some credibility to the Star Wars Universe.

The first assemby language I ever learn!!

Back in the days, I teach myself ASM 6502, that, together with the book "Atari Mapping", and I was able to do fun stuff my "other" nerd friends woudn't even dream of, all on an Atari 800XL.
Want more colors than the 4 you can get on this graphics mode? Bam! here you go! 256 colors (but only up to 4 by scan line, changing the color palette on DLI... but that was the magician's secret :-) )

I was 15 by that time, and this little Atari, and it's simple, easy and straight forward assembly language began to forge the computer engineer I am today.
Atari inc. has a very special place in my nerdy heart.

Honeycomb To Require Dual-Core Processor 177

adeelarshad82 writes "According to managing director of Korean consumer electronics firm Enspert, Google's new Android Honeycomb tablet OS will require a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor to run properly. That means that many existing Android tablets will not be upgradeable to Honeycomb, as they lack the processor necessary to meet the spec. Currently, Nvidia's Tegra 2 platform is the only chipset in products on the market to include a Cortex-A9, although other manufacturers have said they're moving to the new processor architecture for 2011 products."

A *real* transporter, would be indeed very useful. But mining is not possible using Trek transporters. They just break you up in the source, convert you to a data stream and then re-build you at the other end at quantum level using raw materials (atoms, molecules, quarks, whatever) already available on that end. (as I remember form the Technical Manual).
How they did it with rare materials such as gold-pressed latinum escapes me.
All other uses seems quite handy.
HIV, ebola, or other hard-to-kill virus or bacteria? Just step into the transporter and let Trans-McAfee filter them out.

Although it's possible that A Christmas Carol is beaten to death every year there, too

Down here we're also beaten by Dicken's work, but that's just because we are constantly being bombarded by "American" Culture and "culture".

Guess why "American" is between quotes? And why there are two kinds of culture? ;-)

Anyway, I also never understood why we're also condemned to see "The Sound of Music" over and over again for Christmas. "Jesus of Nazareth" during Easter I can understand... but "The sound of music" for Xmas?????
