Submission + - New Intel CPUs: Onboard Memory controllers & G

Steve Kerrison writes: "HEXUS.net is reporting that Nehalem, a new Intel CPU family due out next year, will feature on-board memory controllers and even graphics processing on some models. From the article: 'A revised interface and integrated memory controller is Intel's admittance that its present supporting architecture simply can't cut it in conjunction with a next-generation architecture. We're adamant that folks at Austin will be having a not-so-quiet chuckle to themselves.'"

Submission + - Rise of mammals not linked to decline of dinosaurs

gardenermike writes: "Multiple news sources are reporting on a major finding to be published March 19 in the journal Nature: the rise of mammals did not coincide with the catastrophic decline of the dinosaurs.

Rather, there were spikes in mammalian diversity both long before and long after the K-T boundary marking the end of the prevalence of dinosaurs, but not a spike near the boundary. Mammals did not immediately fill the niche left by the mass extinction, and did not for another 10 million years, during the warm Eocene epoch.

Interestingly, this suggests that climate change was the major driving force behind mammalian evolution."

Submission + - Advances in Robotics

CryptoKnight writes: From: http://www.robots-dreams.com/

The practice session video we posted recently showing OmniZero.4 climbing a ladder was definitely impressive. But, what if that same robot could also dance around the ring like a professional boxer... And, what if the robot could actually jump rope — not just one lucky hop, but a whole series of jumps while managing the rope by itself...? And, what if the robot could get out a frying pan, crack some eggs, and fix your breakfast...?

Too much to expect from a robot, or for his creator? No, not for OmniZero.4 and Takeshi Maeda. For them, it's all in a day's work. Find that hard to believe? Well, just take a look at their award winning performance recorded last Saturday afternoon during the ROBO-ONE 11 demonstration phase competitions.

Submission + - Is there any simple PHP blog software left?

zwei2stein writes: Simple bloger software is no longer simple. They all got bloated with plugins, multiple user management and in extreme cases file and photo management, or use files to store data (my mommy taught me not to 777).

So, is there simple one left? One that is reliable and free of all bloat? Using PHP and MySQL would be plus, absence of graphical smilies required.

Or should I spend day reinventing wheel?
