Submission + - Your cell phone number is no longer unlisted (wisebread.com)

An anonymous reader writes: According to the Seattle Times, a locally-owned company named Intelius is putting together a cell phone directory that is supposed to be accurate. It costs $15 to search for an individual's cell phone number. That's right — for $15, your cell number can be given out to anyone. You might not have heard of Intelius before, but they are one of those companies that touts their services in background checks. You may have seen ads or received spam emails warning you to do a background check on your date? That's Intelius. They also purchased a small company that does a lot of background check work for employers.

Submission + - World of Warcraft Guild Rating (guildreport.com)

jabskeeterbug writes: "Guildreport.com opened recently to offer the functionality for people to rate guilds, based on how they were/are treated by them. Hundreds of guilds and thousands of reports have been added to the site. It only takes a couple of minutes to file a report on a guild. You can rate reports (Insightful, average, uninformative) while browsing too. The site's goal is to offer some insight on potential guilds a new recruit might be interested in. How far they are in content might not cut it for someone looking to join a fair and friendly guild. When users submit a guild, the data is validated via the official World of Wacraft armory. Reports are monitored and deleted when their karma reaches a low level to keep out uninformative reports. Visit the site and share an experience you had with a particular guild, it will help more than you know!"

Submission + - Irony: China rejects Vista as too risky

surfingmarmot writes: China has rejected Vista as too risky for the some 12,000 Lenovo systems to be used at the Olympic Games. Lenovo is loading the PCs with XP instead. Wireless will still be turned off to further reduce risk. I wonder why they aren't using Red Flag Linux which is an option on the Lenovo systems.

Submission + - Hidden Image Found in Da Vinci's Last Supper (telegraph.co.uk)

Tech.Luver writes: "Telegraph reports, " New claims that Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper contains a hidden image of a woman holding a child are provoking a storm of interest on the internet. The figure allegedly appears when the 15th Century mural painting is superimposed with its mirror image, and both are made partially transparent. According to Slavisa Pesci, an Italian amateur scholar, the resulting composite picture shows a figure clutching what appears to be a young child. ""

I don't have time to argue about some points. But: "A high enough mutation rate, and a new mutation overwrites the last one before the first had time to be tested." Do you have any idea what kind of mutation rate this would require? Eating plutonium sausage for breakfast wouldn't give you enough mutations to have a decent change of having 2 mutations that would cancel eachoter out. It's bullshit. Second point is that if what you say is true, why do bacteria evolve faster than humans. Or are you arguing they do not?
