"SugarCRM is to adopt version 3 of the GNU general public license for the next release of its open-source CRM software after coming under pressure from its user community to move away from its own Sugar Public License. 'We just think it's a great license,' said John Roberts, SugarCRM CEO and co-founder. 'It's more copyleft, more liberal and less restrictive than our current license.' He added that when the beta version of Sugar Community Edition 5.0 ships within two weeks, it will be licensed under GPLv3."

"Ocean City, New Jersey is a nice, family-oriented beach that will apparently soon be the high-tech model for seashore lovers and now perhaps geeks everywhere. The city has on its plate a $3 million plan for myriad public services and Internet access using radio-frequency identification chips (RFID) and Wi-Fi wireless technology. A wireless network will let Ocean City expand economic development and control the cost of local services. Wireless allows the City to save on cell phone usage, T-1 lines, and it adds efficiency. The city is looking to replace its ubiquitous but mostly annoying beach tags — which indicate you paid to get on the beach $5 per day, $10 for a week, or $20 for the whole summer — with wristbands that contain an RFID chip. Yet another cool feature of the high-tech beach will be the ability to track beachgoers — an application that is being touted by parents."

The announcement explains, "the OpenBSD Foundation will initially concentrate on facilitating larger donations of equipment, funds, documentation and resources. Small scale donations should continue to be submitted through the existing mechanisms.""

I recently moved to Columbia, SC where I have Time Warner as my cable ISP and pay for an 8 Mbps connection and have been very happy with the service, speed and reliability. In contrast I have heard bad things about Comcast, so now that I am up in the Philadelphia PA area visiting my parents, I decided to test out the speed and reliability. For the speed test I went to the Speakeasy speed teset.
To my surprise, here are the results:
New York, NY test: 18,946 kbps up, 1,578 down<br>
Washington, DC: 15,821 kbps up, 1,559 kbps down<br>
Atlanta, GA: 11,257 kbps up, 1,552 kbps down<br>
Chicago, IL: 10,042 kbps up, 1,556 kbps down<br>
San Francisco, CA: 4,230 kbps up, 1,521 kbps down
The San Francisco, CA numbers seem much closer to the rated speed of my fathers connection. So as someone who has never used Comcast until yesterday, what is going on? I know my father is not paying for 10+ Mbps connection. Is Comcast giving priority to popular speed test sites?
