Whoever designed John McCain's MySpace page (McCain has a MySpace account? WTF?) used a template designed Mike Davidson at Newsvine. Unfortuanetly for them, they didn't give Mike credit, and used a linked image from Mike's server, effectively stealing his bandwidth. Mike wasn't too happy about this, so he decided to change the image on his server... effectively announcing that McCain had changed his position on Gay Marriage. He now supports it... "particularly marriage between passionate females."

Using anon proxy you can see that many countries don't display the Chinese "year of the pig" logo from Google. USA has it and China too, but many European countries don't. What is the criteria Google uses not to display the piglet-logo? In previous years all countries could view the "year of the monkey" and the "year of the dog". Are Google afraid of an Islamic equivalent of the Danish cartoon-row?

It may not be an official effort — yet — but thanks to a grass-roots effort, John Edwards has become the first presidential candidate to set-up-shop in Second Life. Jerimee Richir, whose avatar is called Jose Rote, paid-for and developed Edwards' virtual headquarters, and, on a voluntary basis, is managing the in-world campaign. Considering that Second Life's user numbers are much smaller than other social networks, such as MySpace and Facebook — aside from generating press coverage — will campaigning in Second Life actually win many votes? Rote says yes, and that "Second Life users are a unique audience, in that, they are first adopters. It is a smaller community, but I would argue it is a more influential community." What do Slashdot readers think?

Canadian piracy thing! How can these groups continue to spread misinformation and FUD? It is so irritating for those of us up here! Micheal Geist has debunked this baloney (http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/1656/159/ ) "While the reports have succeeded in attracting considerable attention, a closer examination of the industry's own data reveals that the claims are based primarily on fiction rather than fact." Aarrgh!
