Comment Time Travelers (Score 3, Funny) 498

I've been skeptically following a lot of this UFO traffic for a couple of years..because I really want to know. But I have a theory that these "aliens" aren't really aliens. Take for instance the increasing number of homosexuals in the world. If what they say is true, that homosexuality is a genetic inheritance, could it mean that the human race is slowly evolving to become hermaphrodites? How many alien sightings have said that the aliens had sexual organs? Anyways, say that in the future humans are hermaphroditic time travelers? And perhaps they are traveling back in time to prevent the inevitable? I don't know, but I sure am seeing an increase of lesbians on dating sites.

Submission + - New Futuristic Bus Straddles Over Traffic (asiaone.com)

Geek_Cop writes: Instead of spending millions to widen roads, a Chinese company has come up with a new futuristic bus design to counter traffic jams.
Enter the 3D Express Coach. Developed by the Shenzhen Hashi Future Parking Equipment Company, the vehicle is able to carry up to 1,400 passengers at a go while reducing traffic jams by some 30 per cent. The 3D Express Coach does this by sporting a design which allows cars 2 m and under in height to pass through under from under the vehicle.

Stats Show iPhone Owners Get More Sex 397

An anonymous reader writes "According to OK Cupid's survey of 552,000 user pictures iPhone users have more sexual partners than BlackBerry or Android owners. By age 30, the average male iPhone user has had about 10 partners while female iPhone users have had 12. By contrast, BlackBerry users hover around 8 partners and Android users have a mere 6. As the blog's author's wryly observe: 'Finally, statistical proof that iPhone users aren't just getting f*@ked by Apple.'"

Prince Says Internet Is Over 450

the_arrow writes "According to the artist currently known as Prince, 'The internet's completely over.' At least that what he says in an interview with the British newspaper Mirror. Quoting Prince: 'The internet's like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you.'"

Comment Off Grid (Score 1) 515

I'm completely off the grid, no electric company would supply me for less than $50,000. I power my house off of 8 AGM Batteries wired in a 48 volt series into an Outback Inverter. I recharge those batteries with a diesel generator. I have the longest T-1 in North Carolina, roughly 36,000 feet pumping straight to my house. I have no neighbors and work from home, but I need solar panels to charge these batteries, but they are pricey. Anybody want to donate to the cause??

Teacher Gets Stolen Car Back, All Souped Up 135

Police found Amanda Pogany's stolen 1996 Honda in a chop shop and were able to return it to her. While in the custody of the thieves, the car got a few upgrades, including a new V-8 engine, manual transmission, leather interior, tinted windows, and oversize tires. Unfortunately Amanda won't be able to play The Fast and the Furious around the neighborhood with her new souped up car. She doesn't know how to drive a stick.

Does this mean I can dig out my cassette drive? Oh how I miss waiting 80 minutes for a game to load! I really would like to browse the old database I made in 6th grade that ranked all the girls in the school with their bud scale ratings. How I would love to show THAT off on Facebook now. Ahhh the glory days.

Google Awarded Broad Patent For Location-Based Advertising 54

Mashable has a report of a patent that just issued (6-1/2 years after filing) — apparently Google now has a lock on location-based advertising. It's not clear that the search company intends to assert the patent against any other companies (such as emerging rival Apple), but it's useful as leverage. Here is the patent. Update: 03/02 14:34 GMT by S : Reader butlerm noted that the incorrect patent was linked. It now points to the correct URL.
