And 2007 was 6 years ago now. The newest cards have always had issues with Linux. It did not matter who they were from. I usually go by the second newest generation of cards for Linux. Actually I look at last gen for my gaming use as well. Usually the last generation (6000 series for AMD in this case) has been out. The drivers have ha the bugs worked out. The cards are more stable for any OS use. I do not game on my Linux systems. The AMD 6670 I have works fine for what I am doing with it. I am not taxing the Linux system. It is basically a regular desktop with a little coding use and DVD ripping. The second account is used when people visit and they want a computer to use. The Linux machine is the one that is connected to the TV. I can't speak for sound over the HDMI cable. I have the computer's sound go straight to the surround sound system. The picture is fine. I have all my movies ripped and we watch them using the Linux system. I never get tired of the look on people's faces when I tell them the computer is running Linux not windows or OSX. I have had a few converts to Linux since for most of their needs Linux works fine.

On a side note I need to check on blue ray on Linux again. Be good to watch/rip blue ray movies. I do have all the movies that I rip. I just happen to have friends with little kids. They like to throw the disks around when we are not looking. I have picked up the pieces of a disk a number of times. Ripping the movies saves me from having to buy the movie again.

It became super storm when it joined up with other weather systems when it hit the north east. Prior to that it was just hurricane Sandy. Also the media needed to make the storm sound very bad to the average joe. Usually hurricanes are not that strong when they hit the north east. Many people would not and did not leave. Calling it super storm Sandy makes it sound worse to make people listen. Many people did not listen and go to higher ground. I know people who work for the Verizon. They had to go in to restore service. On some coastal towns they plowed the streets to clear the sand. In the plow banks they saw bodies. Well an arm or leg poking out of the sand.

I was wondering if the 1000 mile range is the limit of this battery. Once you hit that the battery is done. They article calls this an air battery yet it needs water. Why not just go the hydrogen route? Aluminum with gallium and water. Use gallium to stop aluminum for forming that protective layer. Aluminum minus the protection will react with water to produce hydrogen gas.

Which is why I usually stay one generation behind on video cards when I am looking for a new one. For what I play I do not need the latest card. I have the specs on what I need. A range of cards meet that spec. Also drivers usually have worked out the bugs by then.

Then again I left the epenis waving contest a long time ago. I have found that stability goes a long way to good gaming. I also no longer play fps games. Maybe today's fps games need the latest card to run well. My newest card is a AMD 6950 2GB model not the latest card. Runs everything great and runs cool (38 C idle 50 C under game load. It drops back to 38 C in a minute or two). I play with people that say I need to have a Nvidia card n order to play. Yet I have no issues with all the eye candy turned to the highest settings. They still crash from time to time. They blame the game. I blame their setup. You don't overclock unless you have enough cooling for it. More then just the CPU and GPU coolers are involved in the cooling setup. having one case fan doesn't cut it. Using that small cramped desktop case will make things run hotter as well. At the very least you should replace the stock GPU cooler thermal compound with a better one. They don't and over clock the GPU. Their GPU runs around 70 C. Which is too high in my book. Then again their CPU is around 65 C. That is also too high in my book. Mine hits 40 C under game load and idles around 28 C. My mid tower case has room in it. It uses three 120 MM intake fans (one blows right at the video card), 120 MM and 140 MM exhaust fans. Add in the 120 MM fan on the CPU and 120 in the power supply. The loudest fan is the GPU fan which is set at 100%. If I set the GPU fan at 70% I head the hard drive over the fans.

No sane business holds grudges like that. If MS wants it, it'll be written into the next contract and either nVidia will agree or not get the contract.

Apple anyone? Rumor was Apple was going with Nvidia. Nvidia announced that had a deal with Apple and then Apple (well Jobs) killed the deal. Why? Apple has to announces things on Apple's schedule i.e. at some hyped Apple event.

Many businesses are run by what many would consider to be not sane people. Sometimes that helps the business and others it hurts the business.

The only reason NK exists today is because of China. IF China did not back NK in the 1950's thinks would have ended back then. If NK does attack the US first, things will get very ugly very fast. I wonder what China will do.

For laptop batteries I have been told that they (the batteries) will not get a memory. I have yet to find a rechargeable battery that doesn't get a memory. With a laptop it is easy to determine. You charge the laptop battery until fully charged. Then when running the laptop on the battery the low power warning pops up in 5-10 minutes (often less then 5 minutes). This is why I usually make a drain battery power setting plan. This power plan has no auto shut off. I can usually run the laptop with 0% battery life for 1-2 hours. Then the laptop shuts off. Turn the laptop on and repeat. When you might get the laptop to post and then it is off again you can charge the laptop battery for the number of hours it takes to get a full charge. This is a pain if you did not note that when you got the laptop. Mine is 12 hours. I have seen 8 hours, 24 hours, 6 hours you need to know what you laptop battery takes for a full charge. You can over charge it (I did on older batteries) it you leave them charging for too long. After fully charged hour-wise I use the laptop until the power runs out again. Then I charge it and change the power setting back to what I normally use. I get my full life out of the battery again. I usually drain the battery 1-2 times a year. I have a 8 year old laptop still on its original battery. I get 3 hours of no power saving use on it and 6 hours of power saver setting use. I do the same thing with my newer laptop. Until I see otherwise I'll keep doing what I am doing.

I know that is not what the laptop companies tell you. My own experience with about 100+ laptops and few thousand other rechargeable batteries is they all get a memory at some point. Draining them, the timed recharge, then use until out of power resets the memory.
