It's not clear how Zoom is easier to use than Jitsi Meet. Doesn't Zoom require installation of a client? Jitsi Meet doesn't -- you just open a meeting URL in your browser and you're in the meeting, no further clicks/keystrokes required. Like this one. Change the URI and you're in a new meeting -- it's that easy.

And that's just the client side. It's fairly trivial to deploy your own Jitsi Meet server using the provided docker packaging, complete with letsencrypt certificates and all (thanks FSF and certbot team!). How easy is it to deploy your own Zoom server?

Can confirm what nbvb said.

Some reps may try to talk you out of it, some insist that you're going to be sacrificing performance if you go that route (?!?), but most won't give you a hard time, and it only takes a minute. If you get unlucky on your first call, just call back and get a better rep.

That's the unlicensed bands.

Licensed bands, on the contrary, consist only of spectrum that is exclusively licensed to individual license holders. e.g. WNYW holds an exclusive license to broadcast on UHF channel 27 in Manhattan. They don't have to share that band with anyone, and it's solely their choice to compress their video feeds enough to allow four separate video streams to be multiplexed (one 720p, the other three 480i) within it. Then, when you consider cable TV providers and the excessive compression which they also solely choose to implement (they have full control over the entirety of spectrum available on their cable networks), this issue is only compounded.

That being said, I agree that these types of scenes are among the worst-case inputs you could feed to DCT-based compression.

I'm not a phone guy, so I'll openly admit that I don't understand the explanations that I've been offered regarding why this is such an intractable problem. I've often been told something about PBXs and the need for different phones at a large call center to appear as though they're all calling from the same number as an explanation for this "need" that carriers allow this kind of spoofing. The thing is, why is there a "need" for that, and why does this "need" override the desire of everyone else to be free from spoofed-number spam calls? When did the entire population become second class citizens to call center operators?

I think we're talking past each other. When you said Trump "was annoyed (as every innocent man would be) that he was being investigated", you didn't imply that he was opposed to this investigation? I'm not sure that I understand this distinction, since it seems reasonable to me that someone who is annoyed by something is also opposed to it. Also, I apologise if my replies have come across as snarky. I thought liberally sprinkling them with an apologetic tone would make it clear that I wasn't trying to be confrontational but merely to better understand your point. I'll try to do better going forward.

My apologies, I thought you were disagreeing with my initial response where I sarcastically agreed with you that Trump "has to make sure that the person who has a high chance of becoming the next President is not corrupt". If you instead acknowledge that Trump in fact opposes investigation of the highest-probability next president, then I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

I didn't realize that the Mueller investigation had been conducted at Trump's behest. From Trump's public statements, my impression was quite the opposite, that he was in fact opposed to any investigation of his own dealings. I was previously unaware of Trump's advocacy for criminal investigation of himself in the same way that he advocated for investigation of Biden. Could you please provide more information about this?
