Comment Re:But what about the cost of e-ink? (Score 1) 158

You know I would have said that before I got one, but I haven't hooked my kindle up to a computer in months. It's much easier to just download from the device itself. Certainly this is true on trips where I don't bring a computer, but even around the house. It's one less step. Sure it's not hard to hook up a cable and drag a file, but it's easier to just click on it.

It's a bargin in terms of time compared to nothing, but that's not the space we're in. I have a Windows 7 Media center box (Only windows box I own). It does DVR functions, plays netflix and DVDs. It gets free guides forever, and can sleep, saving me $10 a month in power costs over my old TiVo. (Electricity is very expensive where I live). This box was $300 at walmart + a $70 tuner. It's onboard HDMI outputs 1080p video flawlessly and overall it is more "snappy" than my old TiVo HD. This to me is more a bargin than any Tivo. And this without the fact that I can dig out the keyboard and have a full computer (which I don't use it for often, but still)

I'll fly in when it's passed the full year of flight and safety tests the FAA requires for certification. It flew today certified as an experimental flight, which requires much less rigorous testing than a commercial flight. I have every confidence it will fly eventually, but I'd like all the bugs to be worked out.

Just to correct you on one point, the kindle 2 and DS read PDF natively. Only the Kindle 1 needs you to send it thru Amazon. Books are transferable to up to 5 kindles on one account, not to a stranger. Although most of the ebooks that claim this as a feature have it crippled. (For example the Nook lets you lend a book only one time for 14 days). Your other points are all valid; however, I like my families kindles and they treat us well. YMMV

Did he put on all the filler that the studios do? I recall there was something called like "Silverscreen" edition DVDs that were just the movie (no bonus stuff, no extra tracks, nothing) and advertised better quality. I'm guessing as much as a Gig is dedicated to this stuff on a typical movie release, meaning you would get better quality with your own rip and recompress.

The razor industry has learned though. Go to your local mega-mart/drug store/ etc and go to the razor section. I think you'll find that not only does a 10 pack of blades cost $10, but a razor with one or 2 blades costs about the same. Now this razor is not some mahogany wood with inlaid ivory, it's a piece of plastic made in china. I claim that there is no way they don't make money on both. The new analogy is ink jet printers! Ps. get off my lawn.

Submission + - iPod touch: what's missing! (fplanque.com)

Francois writes: "No matter how nifty the interface, that new iPod touch has some desperately missing features, among which: podcast updates over WiFi, email, games and overall PDA functionality. What's the point of building in that much technology if you don't put it to use? Especially now the iPhone is at barely the same price... but not available outside the US."
