woah, seems you're real pissed that i stepped into your stupid internet argument, snowflake.

so what's the magic level of arbitrariness where it suddenly fucking matters?

i mean, we should use kelvins then cause it's even less arbitrarily defined than centigrade. the reason we don't isn't because of some asinine standard of arbitrariness.

life on this one planet, yes. tell me, what's the exact amount of 'arbitrariness' whereby a temperature calculation suddenly isn't 'arbitrary' enough to be a problem?

my point is the whole argument is stupid. F and C are both arbitrary, so what? that's not the reason we say one is better than the other. otherwise we'd be going with planck units. the reason we don't isn't 'arbitrariness', it's because it's fucking inconvenient as hell to use planck units in day to day calculations. but hey, they sure as shit aren't arbitrary are they!

we don't say the meter is better than the foot cause the foot is arbitrarily defined because the meter is too, even if it's a little less so than the foot. we say the meter is better because the metric system is far easier to calculate in because it's decimalized.

and arguing that, by my reasoning, the fine structure constant is also 'arbitrary' makes no sense, because it's a fundamental constant of the universe whether any life, much less human life, exists at all. making that argument implies that you don't know what the word 'arbitrary' even means.
