Submission + - Armed Police Bots with Stun Guns

foniksonik writes: "On 28 June, Taser International of Arizona announced plans to equip robots with stun guns. [and] the new stun-capable robots could be used against civilians." Non-lethal weapons experts are concerned that the robots will have to stun the suspected criminal for longer periods of time while awaiting human police to come make the official arrest. New Scientist Tech has the short but sweet scoop on this story.

"If someone is severely punished by an autonomous robot, who are you going to take to a tribunal?" asks Steve Wright, a security expert at Leeds Metropolitan University, UK.

I for one do not welcome our new stun gun equipped autonomous overlords, but I can guess who might get sued when an innocent civilian gets caught in the line of fire...
It's funny. Laugh.

Submission + - Intellectual Property on the Menu (buzzle.com)

capt.Hij writes: "Buzzle.com has a story about the owner of a restaurant in New York City who is suing a former chef for copying the look and feel of her restaurant. She is also saying that the chef stole her intellectual property, the recipe for her Caesar salad:

What seems to have upset Ms Charles in particular is Ed's Caesar, a $7 (£3.50) salad that she alleges in the legal action was taken from her own recipe. But Ms Charles acquired the recipe from her mother, who, in turn, wheedled it out of a chef in Los Angeles.

Submission + - Taking Ownership of the TPM Chip on Intel Macs (net-security.org)

An anonymous reader writes: While the Trusted Platform Module chip is not used by any of the Apple software products, that doesn't mean that developers cannot use it for the specific purposes of their applications. While it is not the best idea to target just the computers that have TPM chips, this "perfect" customizations can be used in some organizations for instance running just the TPM-enabled Macs.

Submission + - Vista cracked thanks to Microsoft

Torrentex writes: "Following hot on the heels of the "Brute Force Keygen" for Vista which ultimately proved to be a hoax, a piracy group called Pantheon has released a full Vista crack. This one has been tested by the community and works 100% of the time. It exploits activation functionality Microsoft intentionally built in for OEM system makers churning out thousands of PCs at a time who don't have time to activate each machine individually."
