repackaging google search results wold be little different then copying pages from several novels in order to create your own wouldn't it?

That would be plagiarism which (in the UK at least) is a separate offence to copyright infringement.

They are already keeping logs of all your internet access for a minimum of 6 months within the EU. Many countries including Britain happily require that the logs be kept even longer.

Can you provide a reference to that requirement?
My ISP doesn't keep any logs: http://www.aaisp.net.uk/kb-broadband-realinternet.html

I am right handed and use the mouse in my left hand, because I like to have my (paper) notebook open beside the keyboard and I can mouse with my left hand better than I can write with it.

Each link in the manufacturing chain will reclaim the VAT they paid to the previous link - so the capacitor mfr will reclaim the VAT paid on the materials, the mobo mfr will reclaim the VAT paid on the capacitors, etc. The only one who can''t reclaim the VAT is the end user, unless of course he's a VAT registered business in which case he can reclaim too, so the end result is that everyone has to cover the cost of accounting for VAT with no benefit to themselves or the treasury.

As an android user who has never even touched an iPhone I'm completely unaware of what I'm missing out on, could you please list some of these apps?

Most (if not all) of these cheap ones have resistive touch screens rather than capacitive, so they're not pleasant to use.
