Comment It had nothing to do with the pilot's age... (Score 5, Informative) 338

He was 74, not 80, and he held a current 2nd class medical certification from the FAA. Most private pilots only have a 3rd class; his health was fine and almost certainly had nothing to do with it. You can read more about his credentials here: http://www.av8rdan.com/2011/09/before-assuming-age-was-the-cause-of.html Also, photos are circulating that show control surfaces missing from the aircraft before the crash. Something went wrong mechanically - please do your research before making mindless assumptions. http://corduroyplanet.blogspot.com/2011/09/chilled.html

Self hosting your e-mail is going to be a nightmare; primarily due to the spam and security issues noted above. If you do continue to peruse this effort, you will run into the following: 1. Problems filtering incoming spam 2. Problems with outgoing e-mail not being delivered (incorrectly blocked because "they" don't know/care about you) 3. Problems with ensuring proper security (not rocket science, but much more difficult than just setting a good password) ... and you haven't even touched your webmail UI yet. Personally, if it's the "sandcastle on google's beachfront" problem that you're worried about, simply make sure you have a good backup of your gmail, and an account with a second major email provider that you can fall back on, and you're good to go.

Submission + - Amazon releases cloud-based music service (amazon.com)

KingRobot writes: Right from the horses mouth: "Cloud Players comes in two verieties: Web and Android. All you need as a computer with a web browser and you can listen to your music with Cloud Player for the Web — no software to install — just a web browser. The Android version is an app that lets you do the same thing from your Android phone or tablet."

Looks like it is paired with a cloud storage system that you can keep anything on — starting with 5GB of free space. Music purchased from Amazon apparently doesn't count toward the 5Gb limit.

KingRobot writes: This evening, I attempted to e-mail someone @aol.com, however, I received an immediate permanent failure notice with an error regarding DNS. A quick lookup of their MX records shows there are none. A Google Search says I'm not the only one
