Comment Giant Leaps - A Scientific Music Album (Score 1) 337

A bit of self-promotion here, but for me it was the chance to release a Slashdot friendly music album, full of songs about science. As it celebrates the achievements of scientists and I have an astronaut as the band logo, I titled it Giant Leaps and released it on the Leap Day. The only thing missing when I had come up with the name was getting some artwork concept and done in time to make the release date, but a friend drew a great picture as a gig flyer which just seemed to fit ;-)

I hope they haven't taken away the option to have the playlist in a separate window. I do performances of nerdy songs about science where I have backing video and music being played on VLC player. The video goes through the projector and the playlist is on my Windows laptop screen. It would be an annoyance if that modus operandi had been taken away for me.

I'm not an expert, but I think if 3D TV is causing a pain in your ass you're definitely not doing it right.

...though I can totally understand how making Transformers 3 in 3D caused a giant pain in Michael Bays ass.....

You could pay the fee and get the ad free version, which I did as well. Certainly in the age of dial-up it kicked IE4 and Netscapes bottom. When I was working in the Caribbean at the time it was great as it fitted onto a single floppy disk and you could just press G to stop images from downloading while surfing which made it great for accessing content. It was a browser and a mail client, was fast, had tabbed browsing and mice gestures and just nice to use.

A few years ago there was a comedy in the UK set in a newsroom where the storyline featured up to the minute news items. After a brainstorming session where they wanted something to reflect a minor news item they called it 'Drop The Dead Donkey' - the relevance to this thread is that the initial favourite title was 'Dead Belgians Don't Count'

I was wondering about this too. Aren't HDMI to DVI cables pretty common? Why didn't this come up before?

Perhaps something to do with the lightpeak/Thunderbolt cable? From what I have read that connector is aimed at being capable of driving displays as well as other peripherals - it may be HDMI guys trying to flex their muscles right from the start on this one.
